Watch Macy Gray's excruciating Masked Singer reveal after storming off stage in shock scenes

THIS is the awkward moment Macy Gray was revealed as Toad in the Hole in The Masked Singer – just moments after she stormed off.

The iconic I Try singer, 57, was sent home in Saturday night’s performance but caused a stir on stage when she left before the big reveal.

Dressed as the Frog in the Hole – complete with a pie around her middle – Macy was left “blind” when she was rescued in favor of the currently undiscovered Bear because they believed they knew who she was.

When Jonathan Ross announced they were going home, Macy, still in a completely unreleased costume, walked off the stage, shocking the judges, including Maya Jama and Mo Gilligan.

She returned to be officially exposed with the help of Joel Dommett, giving open-ended answers to end the show.

Maya tried to soften the blow of the elimination by calling her “an icon and an idol” and saying she used to sing Macy’s songs growing up.

“It’s an unmistakable voice, that’s the point!” Joel said, hinting that being able to recognize her could be why she was eliminated so early.

Jonathan also talked about clues, noting that one of the clues was that she had a song in Shrek, but when asked what it was, Macy simply replied, “I forget.”

Macy eventually warmed up though, and Jonathan and Joel commented on the fact that Joel was wearing striped shorts and socks, noting, “I couldn’t stop looking at your legs!”

However, her upset was clear to viewers, with the star looking red-eyed as she nodded to the judges before singing her final song.

Fans later labeled the moment “freaking weird” and a “diva belt.”

This was Macy’s third appearance in the franchise, and she first gave the guessing game a shot in 2021 when she appeared in the Australian version of the series as Atlantis.

A source revealed to The Sun that when Macy reached the final of the US version as The Sea Queen in 2023, she was “completely blindsided” to be one of the first to leave the series.

In fact, bosses battled for nearly an hour to coax Macy back on stage – none of which was seen on screen.

The whistleblower said: “This has never happened before in The Masked Singer.

“When Macy ran off the stage, everyone was frozen in shock, but as soon as she got backstage, the crew took off her mask so they could calm her down.

“Macy was almost shocked at first and was actually annoyed that she was out so early because she really enjoyed being in the American version – when she was obviously brilliant – so she was completely blindsided.”

“For her it was a shock as well as upset and at that moment she had a very raw, human reaction and wanted out,” they added.

“For a professional performer to get to that point shows how bad she felt.

“Obviously The Masked Singer is not a singing competition and it’s just for fun, so being kicked out is no indication of her talent, but no one could believe that a global superstar like Macy had lost like this.

“It took ages for everyone backstage to talk, and poor Joel was on stage basically doing a stand-up routine to try and keep things under control.

“Eventually they managed to get Macy to come back on stage and be properly unmasked and sing one last time.

“But it was completely wild.”
