Is the red car moving forward or backward? Credit: Reddit
The video shows a red car surrounded by heavy traffic seemingly passing it.
He remains in the center of the frame as yellow, black and gray cars swarm around.
The question is whether you can see the red car itself moving forward or backward.
Some people think the red car is moving forward with the traffic, while others think it is moving backwards towards the other cars.
The gif shared on the internet is cleverly made in such a way that it can be interpreted differently.
And it depends on where your focus is in the moving picture.
One Reddit user said they could see it progressing in the beginning.
“Once I notice the white lines, I can’t see it going backwards.
“The white lines show pretty clearly that progress is slow.”
Another wrote: “I just discovered that when I concentrate (fix my gaze) on the front of the red car, I see it moving forward.
“However, if I concentrate on the other cars, I can see that they are moving backwards.”
“I see it from both sides,” someone else said diplomatically.
A third user said: “I could switch it from one to the other, not sure how.”
According to most reactions online, it seems that the car is indeed moving forward and the trick is to focus on the road or the white lines ahead.
By working your way through the puzzle, you could sharpen your foot just the way you need it most.
Psychologists from the University of Glasgow have found that staring at a puzzle can actually drastically improve eyesight as frequent puzzle players can see fine print with greater ease.
According to ZenBuisness: “These visual puzzles can provide you with good mental exercise, which in turn can help you think more effectively and solve problems more easily.”
Optical illusions are thought to help improve attention span, concentration and overall cognitive function.
And picture-within-a-picture puzzles help your brain’s ability to interpret ambiguity.
