WATCH: Ronan Keating’s brother Ciaran killed in car accident death video explained

On Saturday, Ronan Keating’s older brother was identified locally as the victim of a road traffic accident on the N5 near Swinford. Ciaran was the older brother of Boyzone star and The One Show host Ronan and was 50 when he died. He was traveling with Ann Marie, his wife, to take care of his son. In the clash with Sligo Rovers, Ruairi was playing for Cork City FC when the collision occurred, according to reports. At around 3:55pm on Saturday there was a fatal road traffic accident in which Ciara sustained fatal injuries in a collision on the N5 near Ballymiles on a stretch of road known as the crash blackspot.

Ann Marie, Ciaran’s wife, was taken to Mayo University Hospital for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries, while the driver of the other vehicle is believed to be being treated for serious injuries at the hospital. A passenger from the other vehicle was also hospitalized. 15 years ago, Ronan’s older brother and his family moved from Dublin and he reportedly worked as a car salesman, having previously run a bar. Ciaran is survived by a sister, Linda, two brothers, Gerard and Gary, as well as his family and his younger brother, Ronan.

Ciaran Keating’s son Ruari plays for Cork City Football Club. In a statement confirming the death, the club said: “All of us at Cork City FC are deeply saddened by the death of Ciaran Keating, father of our player Ruairi Keating. Our deepest condolences to Ruairi and the entire Keating family on this moment”. Christy Hyland, an independent member of Mayo County Council, said: “Our condolences go out to the entire Keating family. Ciaran’s death is truly shocking.”

For a time Mr Keating was involved in a licensed pub in the village of Lecanvey, about four miles from Westport. Garda Forensic Collision Investigators carried out a technical examination of the accident scene and the vehicles involved. Louisburgh locals told the Irish Mirror that the family had lived in Mayo for around 20 years and were well known and respected in the area. In addition to Ruairi, the couple have another son, Conall, who is an actor in Dublin. He is married to Fair City actress Amilia Stewart and the couple have two children.
