Watch shocking moment rubbish lorry explodes with bin men emptying a wheelie bin narrowly escaping the blast

THIS is the terrifying moment two dumpster men managed to escape – when an object left in a wheelie bin exploded in their truck.

CCTV footage shows a waste worker walking away from the lorry moments before debris fell across the road in Barnet, north London.

Footage captured by a camera attached to the back of the truck shows a worker emptying a black bin into the vehicle.

Seconds later, as he began to haul away the empty bin, a powerful explosion from inside the truck sent trash across the street and sent smoke into the air.

The explosion blew the bin out of the garbageman’s hands, but luckily he and his colleagues escaped unharmed.

Barnet Council says the explosion was caused by a flammable object or objects such as gas canisters or bottles, batteries or aerosol cans that were mistakenly placed in household waste.

When it was crushed by the truck’s impact head, the object caused the bucket and other debris to be launched into the street.

Commenting on the video, Cllr Alan Schneiderman, Barnet Council’s cabinet member for environment and climate change, admitted that the waste workers were lucky to get out unscathed.

He said: “The video is incredibly shocking and we are relieved that the crew escaped unharmed.

“I hope this will help people understand how important it is to properly recycle items such as gas cans and bottles, batteries and aerosols, because on another day we might not be so lucky.”

This incident follows another earlier this year in which a cluster of lithium batteries caught a light and blew a hole in the side of a rubbish lorry in Barnet.

Combustible waste should never be placed in garbage cans, but should be recycled at recycling centers, the council said.

A clever device that people use to collect more in their bins, but not everyone thinks the scavengers will appreciate it

In January of this year, a woman was seriously injured after she was mistakenly thrown into a garbage truck and rammed four times.

The woman is believed to have been in a bin when she was picked up by a truck in Manchester, New Hampshire, US, firefighters said.

She was thrown into the back of the vehicle and could be heard screaming as she was tackled several times.
