Welcome to Plathville Sneak Peek: Kim Plath Tells Moriah and Lydia About Her Boyfriend — and They Are Not OK

Ethan and Olivia Plath aren’t the only family members who don’t quite get along.

In an exclusive sneak peek of this week’s episode of TLC Welcome to Plathville, Kim Plath meets with her daughters Moriah (21) and Lydia (19) and finally tells them about her new boyfriend. And they are less than thrilled.

“What were you girls up to?” Moriah asks, adjusting to catch up.

“Well, I guess it’s new to me, um, dating,” Kim, 51, declares, smiling.

Lydia and Moriah respond with a long, awkward pause, without smiling. Lydia raises her eyebrows and swirls her drink, avoiding eye contact. Finally, Moriah breaks the silence and asks, “How’s it going?”

Kim — who revealed earlier this season that she was dating her son Isaac’s former flight instructor and co-star Ken Palmer after splitting from her husband (and their father) Barry Plath of 24 years last year — she quickly replied, “Good. I mean, I really like it.”

It is so evident. The pair officially became boyfriend and girlfriend in last week’s episode, sealing the decision with a kiss in front of the cameras.

“My mom told me, ‘You know, maybe one day, two years from now, I could go out with someone, but right now I’m not ready for anything,'” Lydia says in the confessional. “And then the next thing I know, she was dating someone for a while and I never got a warning. I don’t know. It’s like she wants me to just, in one day, just jump in and accept everything and move on. Like, I don’t think I can do that . It’s too much to process.”

But Moriah won’t let her mom off the hook as she confronts her head on.

“It can be really hard to be honest about how I feel, but that’s one thing I’m learning is so important,” she begins. “So I’m struggling with the fact that, you know, you’re dating, just because I’m unfamiliar with it, I guess.”

She adds, “I’m trying to make sure it’s okay, you know, that I feel completely fine, it doesn’t matter. But I’m like, you know, I don’t support it.”

In the interview, Moriah notes, “I definitely feel like this is very fast. It’s a lot.”

Kim got a much different reaction earlier this season when she told her son Isaac, 18, about Palmer. He already suspected some romantic funny business between his mom and the man she has a plane with and seemed to be accepting of the new relationship.

As Kim and Barry’s divorce progresses and Kim begins this new romantic chapter, it appears that the separation of their oldest child is just beginning. Ethan and his wife Olivia, both 25, have been battling in recent episodes since moving to Minnesota together in late 2022. On Friday, October 27, they announced in separate statements that they were separating after five years of marriage.

“Olivia and I broke up,” Ethan said. “It just didn’t work out between us, even though God knows we both gave everything we had. We always seemed to be pulling each other in opposite directions in life with different goals. I wish Olivia all the best in the future. I care for her deeply and always .”

“Ethan and I have decided to go our separate ways,” Olivia wrote in part. “There were good times and I want to remember and honor them. We fell in love as children and we go our separate ways as adults. Wiser, older and braver. We will be fine.”

She concluded, “Thank you for the good times, Ethan. I wish you the best.”

They have since stopped following each other on social media.
