In separate Instagram posts on Friday, the couple shared the post with their followers.
“Olivia and I have split up,” Ethan shared in his post. “It just didn’t work out between us, even though God knows we both gave everything we had. We always seemed to be pulling each other in opposite directions in life with different goals. I wish Olivia all the best in the future. I care for her deeply and always .”
Ethan has since updated his Instagram bio to no longer include Olivia’s Instagram profile.

In Olivia’s post, she confirmed the split, and then briefly reflected on their time together.
“I have ambivalent memories of us at 18, which I innocently dream about forever – but the partner you choose is a reflection of the world you want to live in, and at 18 I didn’t know who I was or what kind of life I wanted to create for myself,” she wrote.
“Seven years later, I have already begun my journey of questioning, deconstructing and rebuilding, and I know this is a process I will continue to prioritize throughout my life,” she concluded. “Thank you for the good times, Ethan. I wish you the best.”
At the start of the current season of the TLC hit, Ethan and Olivia, both 25, seemed stronger than ever after spending the summer in Europe. As the winter of 2022 approached, they were optimistic about their future as they prepared to move to Minnesota and away from Ethan’s estranged immediate family in the south.
But as Christmas rolled around, Ethan and Olivia’s marriage seemed strained. The young couple agreed to no longer see eye to eye on matters such as religion and politics.
“I’ve changed a lot since I got married and I think that’s okay,” Olivia said in this week’s episode. “Sometimes I doubt it, but I also think I’m capable of being in a relationship with someone who believes differently than I do. I think that’s something I keep asking Ethan if he’s capable of that.”
“I’m not tolerant of some of the beliefs that you have, and you’re not tolerant of some of the beliefs that I have,” Ethan says in a preview of the upcoming episodes. “Getting along to get along: That’s a recipe for a miserable life. I don’t want that.”
This is not the first time that Olivia and Ethan, both 25, have publicly split. After getting married in 2018, the couple was separated for some time. In the 2021 series, the couple admitted they were looking for space as they assessed the future of their marriage. Olivia then decided it was best to move out of their shared home.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen,” she said in one episode Welcome to Plathville. “I was trying so hard to, like, make the marriage work. But I just realized that as long as I stayed and held Ethan’s world together, he could just ignore everything that was going on.”

The couple reunited after a short break in their relationship, and they publicly expressed their renewed love. “When high school sweethearts find each other, there’s nothing that can keep us apart,” Ethan wrote in an Instagram post in September 2022.
In this week’s episode, Olivia reflected on their divorce after the trial. “I don’t think of it as independent or free or single or figuring out my own life at all,” she says. “I just remember a lot of pain, but my mindset was that he was going to have to deal with this. But I think I’m in a very different place in my life, and I think I would feel very different today.”
She adds, “The more I deconstruct all the beliefs about marriage that I was taught growing up, the more confused I feel about what should I expect from a relationship?”
Ethan and Olivia have previously disagreed on several topics during their marriage — including everything from Ethan’s love of buying cars to his reality TV family dynamic.
In this week’s episode, Olivia also admitted to her sister, Lydia Grace Meggs, that on her wedding day, she questioned whether she would regret marrying Ethan, “but, to be honest, it was mostly because of his family.”

Fans began to speculate that Ethan and Olivia may have divorced sometime in early 2023 due to their lack of social media presence. Olivia last shared a post with Ethan on Instagram in November 2022, although it appears to have been deleted, and his last ode to his wife was on January 8.
Most notably, Ethan reunited with his siblings — after being estranged from his parents — in March, while on a trip to bring his classic cars from Florida to Minnesota. Olivia didn’t seem to be on the trip.
