Three people were arrested on suspicion of having committed the criminal offense of attempted murder, and one person was detained on suspicion of having committed the criminal offense of fraud.

Two suspects were also taken to hospital with minor facial injuries.

The incident was initially reported as a stabbing, but further police investigations confirmed that this was not the case – as the investigation is ongoing.

It happened just a few meters from the parliament building – in front of horrified tourists.

Police, paramedics and the air ambulance service attended the scene on the main London Bridge – which is currently closed.

Pictures from the scene show a number of police officers gathered in the area, while emergency vehicles are seen down the street.

A worried Twitter user wrote: “Westminster Bridge closed in both directions.

“Hundreds of police officers at the scene, and the Bridge is cordoned off. What’s going on?”

It is understood that the incident is not being treated as terrorism-related.

The road remains closed while the police investigate.
