Meri Brown knew what she was looking for in her next partner after Kody Brown.

Before she went public with her new relationship with boyfriend Amos, the 53-year-old Sister wives star told PEOPLE what is most important to her when it comes to new love.

“Laughter—snorty laughter,” she said. “I mean, you have to do that — but also be able to have real and honest conversations.”

Meri also noted that she is “super excited” about the next chapter in her life.

“I am. I’m really excited about it,” she explained. “There are a lot of things that are still unknown, and that’s okay. And I have to tell myself often that it’s okay, that things are unknown. Because I believe that they will come to me when they are meant to come to me, but also I have a lot of control, a lot of things I can control, and I’m really excited about those things.”

Meri has been in a polygamous marriage with Kody, 54, for the past three decades. She was the first wife of the Brown family patriarch and at first his only wife in the eyes of the law until Kody divorced her so he could legally marry Robyn Brown in 2014. (This move was meant to be positive for Kody, his wives and their children — with Kody, who intends to adopt Robyn’s children from her previous marriage and welcome them into his larger polygamous family unit.)

In January of last year, Meri and Kody jointly announced on Instagram that they were separating. The breakup news follows Christina Brown’s decision to leave Kody in 2021 and Janelle Brown’s decision to leave in 2022.

Meri opened up about her new relationship with Amos while celebrating her 53rd birthday recently, saying he is “a good guy I’ve been dating since October”.

“He’s not 180 cm tall, and he’s not a pilot, but he loves Christmas almost as much as I do, and we laugh a lot together, and both are important elements of a relationship,” she wrote on Instagram. “Also, [my dog] Zona absolutely loves him (be sure to swipe to see the cutest pic!)”

Meri then gushed about Amos on Instagram Live, sharing all the “things he does” that make her smile. The reality star added that the couple is “happy” and that they “love each other very much.”
