Alan Ritchson and his wife are the definition of high school sweethearts.

The actor met his future wife during high school in Florida. Catherine was 16 and Alan 17 at the time.

“We haven’t been ‘together’ since then, but we’ve definitely dated,” she explained in September 2023 while appearing on The path to wisdom podcast. Catherine shared that the two first met in a dance class – Alan studied musical theater and had to take a certain number of dance classes.

“I will never forget the first time I saw him in [dance] studio. I turned to my friend Miriam and said, ‘Who is that?’ ” she recalled. “He approached me at one point and we just talked.”

She revealed that Alan broke up with her at the end of their first summer together because he assumed it was “just a relationship”.

“I’ve since made him pay for it,” she joked to the podcast hosts. “He’s still justifying it. He said, ‘You lived 30 minutes from here, I couldn’t afford gas.’ ”

After high school, Catherine attended the University of Florida. While she was in school, Alan came to Miami for a modeling shoot, and the couple reconnected through a mutual friend.

“[The rest is] history after that,” she added. The couple married in 2006 and have since had three children.

She grew up on a farm

During her performance at The path to wisdom podcast, Catherine talked about her childhood.

“I lived in a very small town, we would drive 30, 40 minutes just to go see a movie at the theater,” she said.

Catherine grew up on a 90 acre farm and was used to traveling long distances in a car to get to major shops or recreational activities.

“There was nowhere to walk if we had to be in civilization,” she noted.

She met Alan at a ballet class

During the interview at Today show in February 2022 Quick X star admitted that he and Catherine met during his dancing days.

“Can we keep this between us?” Alan joked with hosts Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager. – It was in the ballet.

The talk show hosts then pulled out a photo of Alan and Catherine during the school production Guys and dollswhich Catherine posted on her Instagram in 2020 as part of the return carousel.

Alan also revealed that Catherine will wish him luck in the production by bringing him cookies before he goes on stage. – Of course I fell in love – he added.

She and Alan got married in 2006

The couple married on May 12, 2006. To mark their 15th wedding anniversary, Alan posted a heartfelt tribute to his wife on Instagram.

“15 years ago today, two children got married. They had no idea what great and terrible things lay ahead of them when they vowed to be each other’s partners in life, no matter what,” he wrote in the caption. “Despite uncertain highs and suffocating lows, they still hold hands,”

They share three children

Alan and Catherine are the parents of three children: sons Calem, born in 2012, Edan, born in 2013, and Amory, born in 2015.

In December 2015, Alan announced the birth of his third child, Amory Tristan, with a sweet Instagram post. In the photo, the proud dad smiled at the camera while holding his newborn son in his arms.

“He weighs a cool 7lbs 12oz and can only be a football player or a rapper,” he wrote. “I love you, Amory. Say hello to a world that needs more joy, innocence and love, like you.”

In May 2023, in honor of their 17th wedding anniversary, Alan shared a loving tribute to his wife on Instagram. In the title of the post, Reacher star has been candid about her fame and her bipolar disorder. He began the headline by explaining that the year had been “particularly challenging both personally and professionally.”

“Dealing with a bipolar husband who can deal a serious blow to a healthy partner and a level of fame that nothing can prepare you for… I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. However, this is the straw she drew when she said ‘I do,'” he wrote.

“Thank GOD for someone with unspeakable strength, tenacity, resilience, patience, grace, love, compassion and forgiveness to suffer through the valleys with me,” he continued of his wife.

Closing the headline, Alan said that “no one embodies authentic, hard-earned love” more than Catherine.

“And I am eternally grateful that God knew well enough to give me life with her,” he added.

She is extremely proud of Alan’s acting career

Catherine is very proud of her husband’s career efforts. In a sweet post on social media in February 2022, she recalled the moment Alan found out he had booked the title role of Jack Reacher.

“He came into our bedroom and stared at me as if he had seen a ghost; there are no words,” she wrote. “I said ‘What’s wrong?’ and I saw his eyes begin to well up with tears. Becoming terrified, I asked, ‘Are all the boys all right?’ He nodded affirmatively.”

After the actor revealed he would be starring in the Prime Video series, Catherine cried and “jumped and screamed” with pride and joy.

“Saying ‘I’m so proud of him’ will never get it across,” she continued. “I hope you love this series as much as Alan loved making it. Because he did his best to make it.”

She and Alan live “on the road” with their three children

Alan and Catherine decided to sell their family home in Florida to live life “on the road”.

Talking to The Wall Street Journal in December 2023, the actor explained that his work commitments prompted the decision.

“Being away from my family for a long time on location was difficult for them and me,” he explained to the outlet. “So Cat and I recently sold our house in Florida and now we’re living in Airbnbs and hotels while I’m on set. ”

Since 2018, he has been living a sober lifestyle

Catherine decided to stop drinking alcohol in 2018 and hasn’t looked back since.

In October 2018, she challenged herself to take part in Sober October, something she said she treated as an “experiment”. After the 31 days were up, Catherine continued without alcohol.

“I would encourage anyone who feels like they are starting to think about a life without alcohol, but quickly fall back into the current of our culture’s expectations or even our own psychological expectations; give yourself space to experiment,” she wrote in the description of the Instagram post. “You might find some treasure along the way.”
