Alex Morgan and Servando Carrasco are known as the ultimate power couple in the world of soccer.
Morgan and Carrasco met while in college and have supported each other in their sports careers ever since. After tying the knot on New Year’s Eve in 2014, the couple welcomed their first child together in 2020, a daughter named Charlie.
“We are so happy to be growing our family,” Morgan told PEOPLE of her daughter. “She’s the best World Cup gift I could have asked for.”
In September 2024, Morgan announced her retirement from football and also revealed that she and Carrasco were expecting their second child – news she said they were “overjoyed” about, although it was “unexpected”.
Despite their busy schedules as professional footballers, they take everything day by day and put their family of three first.
“We don’t want to be separated from each other, because we want to see it grow every day, together,” she explained to PEOPLE. “It’s important to us. We made that decision before we decided to get pregnant… We’re just going to take it month by month, and now we’re just enjoying it here.”
In July and August 2023, Morgan competed in her fourth World Cup. The United States Women’s National Team lost to Sweden in the Round of 16. Still, the soccer star was grateful to the USWNT for letting her take her family along for the ride.
“I think it’s really special, that we don’t have to leave our child at home while we’re doing what we love and playing our sport,” Morgan told PEOPLE. “You get the best of both worlds and that’s the way it should be, but it’s not always the case.”

“She was very raw,” Carrasco told MLS Soccer of Morgan’s talent. “She clearly had athletic ability. She was the fastest player on the team. She had an amazing left foot. She could hit the ball on the rope. And then she started adding things to her game, brick by brick. She got better tactically, she started watching football more, her first touch got better.”

“He planned a proposal for that night and asked me to stand up and then asked me to marry him,” she told The Knot. “We drove our cruisers to the beach at my dad’s house to celebrate and drink champagne with family and friends. We talked about what kind of engagement ring I wanted before the proposal, but I wasn’t really set on a specific style. He did have it custom designed. .”

“I think every day I see her doing something new or just changing a little bit,” Morgan told PEOPLE of becoming a first-time mom and watching her grow up. “Whether it’s something she says, her outbursts and the way she speaks, it could be different one day or the next.”
Ahead of the 2023 World Cup, Morgan told PEOPLE that Charlie “already loves soccer.” She added: “She’s quite athletic in general. She’s very competitive and when we get to the hotel she wants to race me down the hall. Be the one to touch the walls first. She wants to sing and dance all day and all night. She is very active!”

Although the pair are powerful in the world of football, they don’t talk to each other about their games and performances — especially when things were tough.
“I’m not going to go out of my way to tell her she played badly,” he told MLS Soccer. “And if she did the same thing for me, well, that wouldn’t be good for our relationship… [The] the last thing I want to hear is from the person I love. If she wants to talk about it, we’ll talk about it. If I want to talk about it, we’ll talk about it. But football is such a big part of our lives, and when we’re off the pitch, we’re normal people. We have hobbies. We do things.”
“[This has] it’s been quite a journey,” Carrasco later told MLS Soccer about talking to his wife. “In the beginning, we talked about games and stuff like that. You know, like, ‘Oh, you should probably do this, you should probably do that.’ And now I think marriage is more important. We kind of keep football separate.”
They are expecting their second child
In an Instagram post shared by Morgan in September 2024, she not only revealed that she was retiring from soccer, but that she and Carrasco were going to be parents to two children.
“As unexpected as it is, we are so overjoyed,” she said in the video. “Family means everything to me. I wouldn’t be here without my husband and my family who have uplifted, motivated, encouraged and supported me and sacrificed for me for the last 15 years as a professional athlete.”
