But Wong is on good terms with her ex-husband, Justin Hakuta.
The Beef the actress first met Hakuta at a friend’s wedding reception in 2010. After several years of dating, the couple married in San Francisco on November 27, 2014. They later had two daughters: Mari in 2015 and Nikki in 2017.
In April 2022, the couple announced that they were separating after eight years of marriage. “It is amicable and they will continue to co-parent lovingly,” a source told PEOPLE at the time.
However, Wong did not officially file for divorce until December 2023.

Hakuta graduated from Carnegie Mellon in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in decision science and a minor in Spanish. After graduating, he received a Fulbright scholarship to fund his field study, Non-Governmental Organizations to Combat Human Trafficking in the Philippines, according to Carnegie Mellon University’s website.
“Justin was one of the first students in our new major in decision science,” said Baruch Fischhoff, professor of social and decision sciences and engineering and public policy at Howard Heinz University. “As one of the pioneers of our program, he helped shape the study through his strong work and leadership. He has a passion for life and justice.”
He graduated from Harvard Business School
In addition to graduating from the prestigious Carnegie Mellon University, Hakuta earned an MBA from Harvard Business School in 2011, around the same time he first met Wong.
“The first thing I knew about him was that he was attending Harvard Business School at the time,” Wong said earlier during one of her standup comedy specials. “And I said, ‘Oh my God, I’m going to trap his ass.’
His father is Ken Hakuta
Hakuta is the son of the famous TV inventor Ken Hakuta aka Dr. Fad, a Japanese-American inventor who developed a 1980s toy called the Wacky Wall Walker and also hosted a children’s invention program The Dr. Fad Show from 1988 to 1994.

Over the years, Always be my maybe the star has made numerous references to Hakuta in his stand-up comedy appearances. In addition to revealing details about how they first met, she also made various jokes about their marriage, including how his parents made her sign a prenuptial agreement when they first got married.
“No one could have predicted this outcome,” Wong joked about the fact that her income has increased significantly since then. “Now if we divorce, their son is f—–.”
He and Wong have two children
Wong and Hakuta share two daughters, Mari, born in 2015, and Nikki, born in 2017. In March 2023, Wong spoke openly about taking her daughters with her on comedy tours, calling it a “wonderful” experience.
“Taking the kids on a trip is so nice. It’s the opposite of film and television where I’m gone all day,” she explained. “It’s a really fun family adventure because I’m mostly performing at night, and then during the day we go on adventures to the children’s museum or gardens or see family friends. It’s really cool that they’ve seen so much of America.”

After they announced they were splitting up in April 2022, Wong spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about her “unconventional divorce.”
“We’re best friends,” she said of her relationship with Hakuto after the breakup. – We have been through so much together.
