Amanda Freitag was born and raised in New Jersey, where she attended Memorial High School (currently known as Cedar High School). Jason Freitag and Justin Freitag are her two younger brothers.
While she was in school, one of her teachers suggested that she enroll in the Culinary Institute, which is only found in the United States.
Keeping her advice in mind, she entered the same university and graduated in 1989. After graduation, she traveled to France and Italy in search of work. She spent several years working under the guidance of a famous chef at the L’Arpege restaurant.
