Billy Bob Thornton has been married to Connie Angland for almost a decade, but he never really thought it would happen.

In an interview with S. in 2008 MaximThornton said he would probably never marry again to save England from the public eye.

“I told Connie I don’t want to put her through it. We’re doing well. We’ve been together for four years. We have a child together,” he said at the time. “If we get married, then the press will start calling her ‘Number Six.’ ”

Six years later, they apparently changed their minds. Angland and Thornton tied the knot quietly on October 22, 2014, and the world didn’t find out until February of the following year. Thornton and Angland met shortly after his divorce from his fifth wife, Angelina Jolie, in May 2003. The couple announced Angland’s pregnancy in April 2004 and welcomed their daughter Bella on September 22, 2004, with a newborn weighing 6 lbs., 1 1/2 oz. Bella is Angland’s first and only child, and Thornton’s fourth. When Bella was three months old, he said, “I haven’t been a father for a long time, so it takes some getting used to. But don’t forget the diapers!”

When Bella was 9, Thornton previously said she enjoyed reading to him and dressing up as a ladybug. He also described her personality as a baby as “fiery” and “sweet”.
