Biography of Billy Graham
William Franklin Graham, Jr. KBE, better known as “Billy Graham,” was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on November 7, 1918. He was born in the United States to William Franking Graham Sr. and Morrow Graham. He was the oldest of four children who grew up in Charlotte near the family dairy farm.
Billy Graham attended Sharon High School, and after graduation enrolled at Bob Jones College in Cleveland for further studies. Billy did not finish his education and dropped out after a few months. He then attended the Florida Bible Institute, where he earned a Bachelor of Theology degree.
At the age of sixteen, Billy Graham decided to commit his life to Christ after attending a series of revival meetings in Charlotte led by evangelist Mordecai Fowler Ham. He was baptized in Silver Lake by the pastor of the church. He was later ordained as a Southern Baptist minister in the Association of St. John’s River. Soon after, he enrolled at Wheaton College in Illinois, where he earned a degree in anthropology.

Career
Billy became the pastor of the United Gospel Tabernacle and had other preaching engagements while attending college. He then served for a short time as pastor of the First Baptist Church in Western Springs, Illinois. He then moved to Minnesota and became president of Northwestern Bible College in Minneapolis.
Billy Graham’s popularity grew throughout the country, and soon a well-known religious organization invited him to preach at their revival in Los Angeles. It was truly magical, and many people gathered to witness the event. The event was supposed to last for several days, but the growing number of visitors forced the organizers to extend it for another five weeks. Billy had a very successful event.
After World War II, Billy preached against the threat of communism, making evangelism non-threatening and helping people overcome their fears of war and agony. People chose him as their leader at this time because he gave them comfort and guided them on the path of spirituality.
Billy Graham was a close friend of Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. and made significant contributions to the civil rights movement. After the bombings of the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church, he held integrated crusades. He has conducted evangelistic meetings at numerous colleges and universities across the country, as well as in the United Kingdom.
