Bob Barker has found love again.

Former The price is right the host was first linked to Nancy Burnet in 1983 — two years after the death of his wife, Dorothy Jo Gideon. Barker and Burnet were together for four decades until the TV legend died of natural causes in August 2023. He was 99.

Later that month, she recalled her life with Barker in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE.

“I didn’t pet him or lick him,” Burnet said. “I was very honest and direct with him. Everyone needs someone to hold them to a level, and I was that person. I think he could rely on me, he trusted me and respected me.”

On Barker’s 100th birthday, Burnet spoke to Party tonight about his longtime love.

“He had a really wonderful, charming life,” she told the news outlet, adding that if Barker had been alive to witness the turn of the century, he would have said, “I’m as sweet as I’ve ever been.”

She and Barker met in 1983

Burnet and Barker met at an animal adoption event on March 27, 1983, hosted by Barker and actor Earl Holliman, Fox News reports.

At that time Burnet was not well known The price is right or Barker, but when a friend told her about his involvement in the sterilization movement, she was intrigued. She approached him about another project and they bonded over their shared love of advocating for animal rights.

“I really knew next to nothing about him,” Burnet recalled in an interview with PEOPLE in August 2023. “I knew he was The price is right. I knew he was interested in animals and had the format to get the word out.”

She is the president of a non-profit organization

In 1987, Burnet founded United Animal Rights Activists, an animal rights group based in California. She is the president of an organization supported by Barker.

She has also been the director of the DJ&T Foundation since 2000. Founded in 1994 by Barker, this foundation provides spay and neuter services at a low cost. DJ&T is named after Barker’s late wife Gideon and mother Matilda “Tillie” Barker.

She and Barker connected with animals wherever they went

While the couple was committed to animal rights at home, it was also something that followed them on their travels.

“Everywhere we’ve ever traveled, we’ve been involved in some kind of animal issue or something,” she told Fox News. During one trip to the Cayman Islands, they tried to organize a protest after learning that a circus was coming to town.

“They were happy to see us leave Cayman,” she said.

On a trip to Hawaii, something similar happened when a couple found an injured pit bull freely begging for food in a tourist area. The two believed that the dog had fought because they saw that a piece of skin had been torn from its side.

“We found that it wasn’t dog fighting at all. It was pit hog hunting,” Burnet said. “And so we tried to campaign for it, and they were happy to see us get out of there. We weren’t welcome in a lot of places.”

She worked on Barker’s “greatest living legacy”

In 2018, Barker donated more than 400 acres in Moreno Valley, California to DonkeyLand, a nonprofit rescue organization that works with injured and sick wild donkeys and donkeys.

This land helped fence off part of the property so the animals could be protected and still roam free. Burnet called the donation Barker’s “greatest living legacy,” and in total he has donated millions of dollars to DonkeyLand through his charities.

“It was a disaster,” she told Fox News. “Donkeys were hit by cars, trains, it was a terrible situation.”

“Five hundred acres that are fenced off and that’s thanks to Bob Barker and Nancy Burnet and the foundation for the generous contributions for the sanctuary and the fence,” Chad Cheatham, vice president of Donkeyland, told NBC Los Angeles.

Barker said he would never remarry

After the death of his wife of 36 years, Barker remained committed to keeping Gideon’s memory alive and kept his word that he would never remarry.

“She was with me the whole time until she died,” Barker said Esquire in 2007. “Some men might do well with a second or third marriage. In my case, I had my marriage and she was the love of my life.”

Despite their decades-long relationship, Barker and Burnet never married. But after Barker’s death in August 2023, Burnet revealed during an interview with PEOPLE that Barker had considered remarrying.

“Neither of us had any desire to ever get married again, and he believed that when we first started seeing each other,” she said. “But as the years went by, he proposed to me many times. I just said, ‘I just don’t want to get married.’ Our humor was very dry. We kind of joked around. And he said, ‘Not even me?’ And I said, ‘Especially not to you.’ ”

Burnet claimed that in 2011, Barker had his lawyer draw up a prenuptial agreement without consulting her.

“He told his lawyer to send it to me,” she recalled. “I said, ‘I just don’t want to do this. I won’t accept it.’ And he said, ‘Well, if you don’t like the terms of the prenuptial agreement, take it to your lawyer. You can change it.’ I’ve never done that.”
