Gawen DeAngelo “Bonzi” Wells was born in Munchie, Indiana, United States of America on September 28, 1976. Gawen Wells and Christian Scaife Coleman are his parents. From 1994 to 1998, Wells attended Muncie Central and Ball State, where he was active in his college career.
Wells led the conference in steals each of his four years at Ball State. He finished his collegiate career with the Mid-American Conference all-time career points and steals records.

As a kid, Wells went to a game as a cheerleader, and it was one of those days when his uncle, who happened to be the coach, picked him up from the sidelines. He says he really played hard to be the best. He has since become one of the top players, and went on to play at Muncie Central High School and Ball State University.
After college, Wells continued his career as a shooting guard/small forward for the Portland Trail Blazers between 1998 and 2003, and later with the Memphis Grizzlies, Sacramento Kings, Houston Rockets, New Orleans Hornets, Shanzi Zhongyu and Capitanes de Arecibo.
Bonzi, on the other hand, had a lot of accidents on and off the field. The Blazers once suspended him for two games for publicly swearing at his coach after being ejected from a game. In another incident, Bonzi was fined for making an obscene gesture to a fan during a lost game.

During his career, Wells achieved remarkable things. He was named BSN champion in 2010, 1998 NCAA season best, 1996 2x Mac Player of the Year and 3x All-MAC first team 1996-1998. He was also listed as retired Ball State Cardinals No. 42.
Wells was also named the league’s Freshman of the Year in 1994-95. Wells played 11 years in the National Basketball Association after graduating from Ball State. Wells also broke Ron Harper’s Mid-American Conference scoring record at Ball State, scoring 2,377 points.
