Brian Jean-Mary Wikipedia: Michigan linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary, 48, returns to his old team. Brian spent the last three seasons with the University of Tennessee. Many Tennessee fans are disappointed that Jean-Mary is leaving the team. The linebacker coach was instrumental in their team’s success and established himself as one of the Vols’ top recruits.
The Jacksonville Jaguars hired Tennessee running backs coach Jerry Mack just a few days ago. The experienced coach has worked at Louisville, Georgia Tech and Texas. Brian will return to Michigan for the second time, having already spent the 2020 season there. According to Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider, Brian will also serve as the defensive coordinator for the Wolverines.
Brian Jean-Mary: Wikipedia and old age
Brian Jean-Mary, 48, was a standout player at Appalachian State in the late 1990s. A native of Apopka, Florida, Jean-Mary graduated in 1998 and began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Louisville. Brian spent one season at Louisville before joining Lou Holtz at South Carolina, where he served as a defensive graduate assistant for two seasons. Brian joined North Alabama as the defensive backs coach in 2003 and helped the Lions win the Gulf South Conference championship and reach the semifinals of the NCAA Division II playoffs.
After establishing himself at North Alabama, Jean-Mary joined Georgia Tech as the linebackers coach, where he spent six seasons. During his time, Brian was able to construct one of the most consistent defenses in the country. His team finished in the top 30 in run defense, total defense and scoring defense. Brian led the team to an ACC Championship victory against Clemson and a berth in the 2010 FedEx Orange Bowl.
Partnership with Charlie Strong
Brian returned to Louisville for the 2010 season, but this time as the associate head coach and linebackers coach. The linebackers coach came to Louisville at the same time Charlie Strong was hired. With Charlie as head coach, Louisville went 37-15 in four seasons and won two Big East Conference championships. Brian followed Charlie to Texas in 2014. Texas’ website interviewed the linebacker coach after he was hired. When asked why he chose Texas, Brian said it was too difficult to pass up the opportunity to coach such a legendary club.
The interviewer also asked what qualities Charlie had that made him an effective instructor. Brian answered with one word: “Consistency.” He said Strong is a hands-on coach with solid fundamentals. However, the two were unable to repeat their magic in Lousiville, Texas. Texas fired Charlie in 2016 and Jean-Mary followed him to USF. Brian was able to get the best out of the talent during their first season at USF.
The team placed among the top 25 in six categories. But the charm didn’t last long at USF as Charlie and Brian were fired in 2019. Jean-Mary and Strong’s partnership ended when Jean-Mary joined Michigan and Charlie joined Alabama.
Jean-Mary’s time in Michigan and Tennessee
The linebacker coach joined the Michigan football team in 2020. He played just one season with the Wolverines. Despite only playing one season with the Wolverines, Brian made a significant impression. He helped recruit Junior Colson and Jaydon Hood, a four-star linebacker, and Ja’Den McBurrows, a three-star cornerback.
Before leaving Michigan for Tennessee, Brian was interviewed by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Had he joined the Jaguars, he would have teamed up with Charlie Strong again, but that didn’t happen. Instead, Charlie attended the University of Tennessee. During his three seasons with the Tennessee Volunteers, the team finished in the top 30 in the FBS twice. During his tenure at Tennessee, Jean-Mary has shown that he can manage players with negative attitudes and get the most out of them. Brian signed three four-star athletes in 2023: LB Arion Carter, EDGE Caleb-Herring and TE Ethan Davis.

Brian Jean-Mary, the linebackers coach, was married to Jerilyn Ardis for a long time. The couple has two daughters: Brittany and Brooke. Coach Brian’s two daughters currently attend the Webb School in Knoxville. Brittany Jean-Mary, his oldest daughter, was born on January 27, 2016 and is on the cheer team. Before that, Brittany had only posted one family group photo on Instagram. Her sister, Brooke, will graduate from Webb in 2027. His wife, Jerilyn, has an Instagram account but has kept it private, posting only a few pictures on Facebook.
