Who Is Brooke Shields’ Husband? All About Chris Henchy

Brooke Shields may be the more famous face of her marriage, but you’ve probably seen her husband’s work as well.

Since 2001 Blue Lagoon star is married to producer and screenwriter Chris Henchy, who has worked on many hit films and comedy TV series including Escort, Land of the Lost, Campaign and Other guys. Along with actor Will Ferrell and director Adam McKay, he co-created the popular comedy website, Funny or Die, and a partner in Gary Sanchez Productions.

Shields told PEOPLE in March 2023 that laughter was the key to her and Henchy’s long-lasting romance. “He made me laugh and he keeps making me laugh and he doesn’t take anything too seriously so I don’t go down those rabbit holes like I used to,” she said. “He kind of just brings me back and says, ‘We’ll figure it out.’ So he evens me out well.”

The couple are also parents to two daughters: Rowan and Grier.

He is a screenwriter and producer

Like his wife, Henchy also has a successful career in Hollywood. He has worked as a producer and screenwriter for decades and is behind some of the biggest comedies and films. Some of his credits include the hit HBO series Escortsitcom Spin City and various comedy hits.

He is also a frequent collaborator with Ferrell and McKay through the comedy duo’s production company Gary Sanchez Productions, which has allowed him to work on films such as Other guys, Land of the Lost, Campaign, Get Hard and House, all starring Ferrell. The trio also co-founded the website Funny or Die.

While Shields is definitely a relationship actor, Henchy has stepped in front of the camera for a few small roles in some of his projects – though admittedly he prefers to stay behind the scenes.

“I was cut Other guys“, he told Collider in 2015. “I was a real estate agent, I bought a house in Half brothers. I think my role, my performance is described as tight. I’m not the best, yes, I’m not great in front of the cameras.”

He and Shields met through her dog

Shields’ dog was actually the one who introduced her to her future husband. In his memoirs from 2005 It Was Raining: My Journey Through Postpartum Depressionshared Shields’ story of their first meeting.

“To this day, I believe I fell in love with Chris the day we met in 1999, but I would never tell him!” she wrote. “I just got an American Bulldog, Darla, and I brought her to meet my friends at the gym on the Warner Bros. lot. While he was there, the dog wandered off and Chris brought her back. He was writing for the show, filming on set and loving dogs. We talked and he made me laugh.”

Three weeks later, the pair met again when Shields hosted a show in Washington, DC, and Henchy was a writer. “[W]We started spending time together and became friends. I was amazed at how thoughtful and witty he was,” Shields wrote.

At that time, the actress had recently divorced her first husband, Andre Agassi, so she did not want to rush into a relationship. But in the end, she “had to admit that there was something between us that I couldn’t ignore anymore, and we started going out.”

He and Shields got engaged in 2000

Henchy and Shields got engaged while vacationing in Mexico in 2000. “He took her out for the weekend and asked her on a Saturday night,” her publicist confirmed to The Associated Press at the time. “I don’t actually know any details, but she said yes.”

News of the engagement broke when New York jeweler Stephen Russell publicly shared information about Shields’ ring. He described it as “an antique diamond ring cut on a platinum and diamond cushion.”

He and Shields were married twice in 2001

In April 2001, Shields and Henchy were married in a small ceremony on Catalina Island, California. The couple exchanged vows again in Palm Springs, California on May 26, 2001. Shields, wearing a strapless Vera Wang gown complete with a cocktail-length veil, vowed to always laugh at Henchy’s jokes as she read her vows, “even if I” already heard them.”

In May 2023, Shields celebrated 22 years of marriage with an Instagram post featuring photos of the duo over the years. “There’s no one else I’d rather go crazy for or be driven crazy… catch or be caught… love or be loved ❤️,” she wrote in the description.

He and Shields have two children

Henchy and Shields are the proud parents of two daughters. They welcomed Rowan Francis Henchy in 2003 and Grier Hammond Henchy in 2006.

When her children were young, Shields wrote a series of children’s books inspired by them, including one based on the sweet relationship between Henchy and his daughters.

“I think [Chris] He was embarrassed, but he was very touched by it,” Shields said Today. “I feel like the relationship between little girls is special — I only have little girls — and their dad is so unique. He’s a rock star god to them.”

In 2022, Castle for Christmas the actress shared how her daughters feel about their famous mother.

“I’m not a TikTok influencer, so obviously I don’t exist,” Shields joked in an interview with PEOPLE. “I’m not really sure how to handle it, but I get requests all day for things like hair curlers and boy problems, so I feel like I’ve done something right.”

She also said that growing up in the age of social media has put Grier and Rowan under “such a different spotlight” than she grew up with. “Unfortunately, my attention is not informative for their attention,” she explained. “They have a spotlight when they sleep, every bite of food they take is a spotlight. So I’m not trying to compare it because I’m not going to make it because it doesn’t apply.”

Rowan currently attends Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. In 2023, she jumped at the chance to study abroad in Europe — and her entire family came to visit over the Thanksgiving holiday.

He created the series inspired by Shields

One of Henchy’s past projects was a TV show inspired by Shields called I’m with her. The sitcom, which premiered in 2003 and ran for one season, was about a regular guy named Patrick (played by David Sutcliffe) who meets movie star Alex (played by Teri Polo) when her dog bites him. The two characters begin dating, and Patrick learns what it’s like to be in the spotlight after their relationship becomes public.

In an interview with Deseret News, Henchy spoke about the show and revealed what it’s like to be married to Shields, explaining that his famous wife is “very down to earth and makes every situation very easy”.

“What makes this story interesting is that the world around us could be crazy,” he continued. “It’s the world when you go to a restaurant with her and get the best table, and then three days later you show up with your friends and you’re sitting waiting for an hour and you’re sitting by the kitchen. Or they call you ‘Mr. Shields'”

He and Shields did a cooking series together

Shields occasionally shares insights into her personal life on social media through her personal Instagram account and her lifestyle brand Beginning is Now. Through her brand, which is described as “a growing, global community of women, of all ages, learning to live life to the fullest,” Shields launched a cooking series on Instagram called “Brooke Don’t Cook.” In the June 2022 episode, Henchy joined his wife, and the couple discovered that he did most of the cooking at home.

“Because Brooke doesn’t cook, I married a man who does. Chris Henchy, he cooks,” Shields says in the video.

The two made barbecue chicken with baked potatoes for the Father’s Day edition of the series. They joked with each other while in the kitchen, including Henchy giving his wife trouble to open the oven before the food was ready. “Don’t open it! If you’re looking, it’s not cooking. Just look in the glass,” he said.

Over the years, Shields and Henchy have walked many red carpets together. In 2020, the couple attended the premiere of Henchy’s film together with Rowan and Grier Impractical Pranksters: The Movie.

A few years later, Hency supported Shields at the New York premiere of her documentary, Beautiful baby: Brooke Shields.
