Chip Ganassi was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on May 24, 1958. He studied at Duquesne University, where in 1982, he earned a degree in finance. Later, in 2011, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by Carnegie Mellon University. When he was 18, he won his first race in a Formula Ford while attending Bob Bondurant driving school.
After graduating from Duquesne in 1982, Glen began competing in championship auto races. He had a fairly typical upbringing, yet he was passionate about participating in racing sports. His parents gave him full support, even permitting him to drive from Pennsylvania to California to compete in a motorcycle race when he was 16 or 17.
