With a win at the US Open and an ATP Finals title behind him, Daniil Medvedev has had an impressive tennis career so far. But according to the tennis pro, none of this would be possible without his wife Daria Medvedeva.
“She is one of the most important members of my team,” the former No. 1 player told reporters in 2019.
Daniil met his wife in 2014, and the two married four years later in an intimate ceremony in September 2018. In October 2022, the couple welcomed their first child, daughter Alisa.
Having been a tennis player, Daria understands the pressures of the sport.
“It’s great that he understands tennis,” Daniil said during a press conference. “She knows we can’t go shopping before the game. She understands I can be busy from 8 a.m. to night.”
He continued: “Maybe it’s not easy to get used to when you don’t understand anything in tennis. It helped me become better as a person and a player.”

She met Daniil when they were teenagers

Daniil met his future bride when they were teenagers playing competitive tennis with each other. The two even shared a house together in Norway when they were 14 years old. While both continued to develop their careers, Daria eventually left the sport when she was 18 after suffering multiple injuries.
In 2014, Daniil contacted Daria via Instagram messages and the two discussed tennis before finally exchanging phone numbers. Daria didn’t think much of it, other than being amazed at how far the player she once trained had taken his career. My mother and I even went to Moscow to watch his match, she said Tatler Russia their reconnection.
The couple didn’t officially reunite until Daria traveled to Nice, France to meet with a seamstress. Daniil, who was living in Antibes at the time, met Daria during her trip and the rest is history.
“I flew in for a couple of days, we had dinner, celebrated, talked. Since then, things have kind of developed,” she said Tatler.
She and Daniil got married in 2018

Daniil and Daria got married on September 12, 2018 in a private ceremony with their closest friends. In 2021, right after winning the US Open, Daniil sent some sweet words to his wife in honor of their third anniversary.
“This is the third anniversary for me and my wife,” he said during the post-match press conference. “During the tournament, I couldn’t think of a present. So when I went to the finals, I thought, ‘I need to find the present quickly.’ ”
He added: “When I won, the only thing I thought was, if I lose, I don’t have time for gifts. So I have to win this match. I love you, Dasha.”

On October 14, 2022, the daughter of Daniil and Daria, Alisa, was born. Daniil announced her birth on his Instagram, posting a picture of her sleeping.
The following April, Daniil shared more photos of the baby being baptized with her family and friends around her. Daniil appointed his fellow tennis player and friend, Andrej Rubljev, as her best man.
In January 2024, Daniil lost the Australian Open to Jannik Sinner. But during his post-match speech, he promised Daria and Alisa that he would try to win the title in 2025.
“I don’t know if they turned off the TV, but Dasha, Alisa, if you’re watching, it felt like you were there with me,” Daniil said. “Unfortunately, I couldn’t come today. But next time I’ll do my best to make it work for you.”

Daria had her own tennis career until injuries prevented her from turning professional. She even trained with Daniil until she was 18, when she retired from tennis and turned to a journalistic career, enrolling in the Moscow State Institute of International Relations.
She is Daniil’s biggest supporter

Daniil credited his wife for much of his success, saying he wouldn’t be as good a player if he didn’t have a supportive partner by his side.
After the match in August 2019, Daniil spoke at a press conference about how much Daria’s support means to him.
“She gave me great confidence,” he said. “I always say that the moment I proposed to her, that’s when I started going up.”
The tennis pro added that Daria “works a lot” for him so that he can “play better tennis”.
“I’m talking about the little things in life that would get my attention, she cares about them, and I just have to play tennis and win some matches,” Daniil said.
While Baniil won many matches in his career, Daria stood by her husband even during his defeats. In September 2023, Daniil lost the US Open to Novak Djokovic. During the tournament, Daria was seen watching intently from the stands, supporting her husband as he played.
