The romance between Due Lipa and Romain Gavras was short-lived.
The duo first sparked romance rumors in February 2023 when they were photographed leaving a party together. Then in May 2023, the singer made her red carpet debut with Gavras at the film premiere Omar La Fraise (King of Algeria) at the Cannes Film Festival.
However, by the end of 2023, Lipa and Gavras gave up.
Before Gavras, Lipa was in a two-year relationship with Anwar Hadid before they officially called it quits in 2021.

He is French
Gavras was born in 1981 in Paris, France, where he developed an early passion for filmmaking.
“I knew from an early age that this was what I wanted to do,” he said Étage magazine. “I enjoy making feature films, short films, music videos, and sometimes commercials. I come from a generation that was raised by television, so I don’t necessarily think that film is a noble art and that you can’t do something else. I think it’s good to work from a little bit of everything.”
His family is also in the entertainment industry
Gavras comes from a creative family. His mother, Michèle Ray-Gavras, is a journalist and producer, while his father, Costa Gavras, is an Oscar-winning director. His siblings are also in the entertainment industry — his sister Julie Gavras is a director, while his brother Alexandre Gavras is a film producer.
“When your whole family is at the movies, you talk about it at the dinner table and then go watch the movies and talk about them,” he said. Étage magazine about his creative childhood. “I’ve been going to the cinema as long as I can remember. I grew up in a film family, so there was no choice but to make films. At the same time, I didn’t want to show either my dad or my mom some of the earlier things I’d done. I just showed them to my brother. I was very shy. I spent a lot of time making films by myself, and later I showed them to my family, when I felt more confident in the things I was making.”
During the press conference at the 2022 Venice International Film Festival in promotion of his film, AthenaGavras explained that his early childhood inspired the kinds of genres he tackled in later films.
“At home, we only talked about politics and cinema,” he said. “I wasn’t allowed to watch Walt Disney when I was a kid. I still am not. I was brought up listening to Greek myths or Greek tragedy.”
He directed several music videos
While Gavras earned critical acclaim for directing his 2022 action drama film Athena, has also directed several music videos over the years. Some of his most notable music videos include MIA’s “Bad Girls” video, Kanye West’s “No Church in the Wild” video, and Jamie xx’s “Gosh” video.
He previously dated Rita Ora
Before he was linked to Lipa, Gavras dated Rita Ora from late 2020 to early 2021. Although the two never went “red carpet official” with their romance, they did go on several vacations together during their six-month relationship.
In March 2021, Gavras’ spokesperson confirmed his split with Ora Daily Mail, citing “difficulties with their work commitments.”
He and Dua Lipa were first linked in February 2023

The two went public with their romance in May 2023 when they walked the red carpet together at a movie premiere Omar La Fraise (King of Algeria) at the Cannes Film Festival.

In July 2023, Lipa and Gavras traveled to the Greek island of Sifnos. The couple’s vacation agenda included swimming in the Mediterranean Sea, drinking wine and eating fresh seafood.

It is not clear when Lipa and Gavras broke up in 2023. Their split was confirmed in January 2024 when the “New Rules” singer was spotted with actor Callum Turner.
