In an interview with HGTV, Jackson and Sherrod told the long story of how they met, beginning at a New York nightclub concert.

“I saw her backstage, and the light was literally only on her. From that moment I knew she was my wife. I told the security guard to let me back in because I needed to talk to someone – Jackson admitted.

Sherrod said that when he approached her, she thought he was “hitting on her.”

“‘There was a light shining on you like I was supposed to meet you,'” she recalled his words. “And I’m like, ‘Guy, can you just get out of my way?’ ”

She admitted that she was attracted to him, but at the time she was focused on her “inner work” so she didn’t pursue him. But six months later, the two met again at the Puerto Rico Day parade in NYC. Both Sherrod and Jackson were in different locations for their radio stations.

“I’m on the float with my friend, I look over and see only breasts! I didn’t recognize him at all,” Sherrod said, adding that she convinced her friend to go by his boat with her.

“We pass a few times, and then I hear someone calling me. My friend says, ‘A hot guy is calling you!’ I look up and realize it’s him, we talk a little, but he never asks for my number,” she said.

Jackson said he didn’t ask for her number because he “didn’t want to get shot down [again]” in front of Sherrod’s friend.

But luckily, the two were brought together by a real estate project, despite being unaware of each other’s real estate work, when a mutual friend connected Sherrod with Jackson to renovate a house she was working on.

“That’s what’s so amazing about it. Each time, none of it was set up,” Jackson said of all their chance encounters.

Despite both working in the music industry and dating several times, Sherrod and Jackson didn’t begin dating until a real estate situation brought them together.

“I knew Mike as DJ Fadelfo, but we weren’t dating or anything because I never wanted to date a guy in the entertainment industry, but he was already a real estate broker,” Sherrod told Yahoo about their intertwining careers.

“I didn’t know he was a contractor until one day I was flipping a house in New Jersey and my mentor gave me a referral, and it turned out to be Mike’s company, and that’s how we both realized we had dual careers,” she continued.

“So I actually ended up rescuing her on the roof with her foot stuck in a hole because she tried to do some DIY project, you know. So I went from being a DJ to being a savior in construction,” Jackson said, referring to the first of many renovation projects they collaborated on.
