Eric Decker was born in a cold spring in Minnesota. He was raised in a middle-class family. Thomas Charles Decker, his father, worked as a facilities manager and Susan Meyer, his mother, worked as a sales supervisor for a glass manufacturing company.
His parents were of German origin. He has one sibling, Sarah, an older sister who was an athlete. Erick is a white American who practices Roman Catholicism. His parents divorced when he was in the second grade, but he had a lot of support from his parents. He went to Rocori High School.
He played three sports in high school, playing football, basketball and baseball. He was named all-conference, all-area and all-section MVP in every sport and on the football team two years in a row.
