Meet Making the Cut’s 3D designer, Georgia Hardinge.
Georgia Hardinge graduated from Parsons Paris School of Art & Design in 2010 and founded her own company. The designer focuses on luxury sustainability using organic and recycled fabrics in her designs. She is also heavily influenced by architecture and uses the pleating technique to create three-dimensional sculptural silhouettes in freely flowing fabrics. Her influences often include the infrastructure of London, which offers a superb blend of old and new structures.
The designer’s website highlights her brand and says:
“Georgia Hardinge is a modern brand influenced by new technology and innovation. The company uses a strong sculptural aesthetic, offering a three-dimensional approach to wearables.”
At the 2019 Drapers Awards, Hardinge was nominated for the Sustainability Award. When asked to describe her brand in an interview with Drapers 2019, the designer said:
“An intriguing sculptural, sustainable clothing company that takes a three-dimensional approach to feminine design.”
In the interview, she also said that one of the most difficult difficulties facing the fashion business is sustainability.
Speaking further about it, she added:
“With the retail business having such a damaging impact on the environment, it’s crucial that we all work together to make a difference.”
Since starting her company, the Making the Cut candidate has received a lot of praise. For her special structural approach, she received a BFC Contemporary Sponsorship and a Fashion Trust Grant. As part of the catwalk show, the designer was asked to represent the UK at the 2022 Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in Rwanda. Florence Welch, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Alicia Keys, Kylie Minogue and Grimes, among others, have worn Hardinge’s creations. Grazia and Elle designated her as One to Watch.
