In 1989, Jakob and his friend Tobi Miller formed The Apples, which later became The Wallflowers. They started performing in Los Angeles clubs. Jakob wrote the songs for the album, and they released The Wallflowers, their self-titled debut album, on August 25, 1992. Bringing Down the Horse, their second album, was released on May 21, 1996.
Red Letter Days and Rebel, Sweetheart are two other albums. The Wallflowers announced their reunion on November 1, 2011 for the release of their sixth album. Glad All Over, their sixth album, was released in 2012. Jakob started his solo career in 2006, performing at events without his band. He also secured a solo record deal with Columbia Records.
