Jimmie Johnson won the championship in the 60cc class when he was seven years old. He won several championships in the 1990s, first at Chicagoland Speedway in 2001. He worked for Herzog Motorsports at the time and left in 2001.
Since the 2002 season, he has been a regular runner. His first career win came in the NAPA Auto Parts 500 at Auto Club Speedway. He won at Pocono Raceway, Kansas Speedway and the 2003 Coca-Cola 600. Johnson won the 2005 Lowe’s Motor Speedway.
