Who Is Mick Jagger's Girlfriend? All About Melanie Hamrick

Mick Jagger may be one of the most famous rock musicians, but he kept his relationship with his girlfriend Melanie Hamrick a secret.

The Rolling Stones frontman was already the father of seven children when he met the former ballerina in 2014. After two years of dating, the couple welcomed Jagger’s eighth child, son Deveraux Octavian Basil, in 2016.

Before welcoming her first son, Hamrick didn’t have much experience with children and lived a “really simple life,” as she said Marie Claire 2017 “I’ve never held babies. … Now suddenly babies are everywhere!”

Despite their high-profile relationship, Hamrick doesn’t share much about Jagger on social media. Instead, she shares photos of her dance work and son Deveraux.

She made an exception in July 2024, when she shared a series of photos with Jagger and Deveraux on Instagram in honor of the musician’s 81st birthday, writing: “Happy birthday baby !! We love you 🥰 ❤️.”

Although Hamrick and Jagger are 44 years apart, she said she “doesn’t think” about their age difference.

“Everyone is going to have their own opinion. If you think about other people’s opinions, no matter where you are in life, you’re going to have a problem and you’re going to analyze it,” she told The Times in September 2024.

On December 8, 2016, Hamrick gave birth to a son, Deveraux “Devi” Octavian Basil Jagger. Deveraux is Hamrick’s first child and Jagger’s eighth – joining older siblings Karis, Jade, Elizabeth, James, Georgia May, Gabriel and Lucas.

A representative for the couple released a statement following Deveraux’s arrival. “Melanie Hamrick and Mick Jagger’s son was born today in New York and they are both thrilled,” the statement read. “Mick was in hospital for the arrival. Mother and baby are doing well and we ask the media to respect their privacy at this time.”

As he grew older, Deveraux began to enjoy music and dancing just like his parents. He has even been spotted supporting his dad at concerts and ballet with his mother.

“He dances a lot,” Hamrick said The New York Times her son in 2019. “I don’t have him in class yet. He plays the ukulele and makes up songs. He has gene. Definitely. I really want him to take the tap. A little boy making noise with his feet? He likes music lessons.”

On Mother’s Day 2023, Hamrick showed off her son’s moves by posting a cute video of Deveraux dancing to the Imagine Dragons song.

“My wonderful, wild, sweet, beautiful Dev!! I am beyond blessed and thankful to be his mom! ❤️❤️❤️ Happy Mother’s Day!!!!! ❤️ 💐🌸🌺🌷☀️,” she wrote in the caption.

She retired from American Ballet Theater in 2019

“It seems like it’s time to close this chapter and open the next one,” she said The New York Times her departure. “The ABT schedule is great, but it’s hard when you have a child and the life I have now. Some days I feel like Superwoman and other days I feel like I’m above water just on the phone as a dancer — she comes to rehearsal and it’s not fair, but sometimes it’s not there for me.”

Hamrick spent 15 years with the ensemble. Before the last year, she spent her off-season choreographing Porte Rougeballet to the music of The Rolling Stones. Her experience on the other side of the table gave Hamrick a new perspective on her craft.

“I was very excited when I did the choreography Porte Rouge“, she said Pointe magazine. “I had new motivation and thought I might enjoy trying some other styles. I started taking contemporary and hip-hop classes last year. It was so funny being at the back of the class in my hip-hop sneakers, but I is a smile.”

She co-founded a production company

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Hamrick co-founded the non-profit production company Live Arts Global with ABT principal dancer Christine Shevchenko and choreographer Joanna DeFelice.

The company offers a platform to watch shows for free. “Our goal is to bring classical ballet to our beloved audiences at no cost, and hopefully bring in new fans at the same time,” Hamrick said. L’Officiel magazine.

Live Arts Global also hired out-of-work artists and stage crew while most performance venues were closed due to the pandemic. “To make the dancers feel like they were back on stage was really special,” added Hamrick.

She collaborated with Jagger

In the spring of 2019, the couple collaborated on a ballet Porte Rouge. Hamrick, who announced the project on Instagram, choreographed the ballet, while Jagger refined the score using The Rolling Stones’ catalog.

“Melanie had the idea to do a ballet and she’s choreographing it and she chose the songs to be honest,” Jagger told City and country. “We discussed several alternatives – but she did choose them.”

Jagger continued, “Part of my job is to make sure that everything works together smoothly, to make the links and the changes so that they work together. So that they flow nicely and the highs and lows go together and the keys work going from one song to the next — kind of things.”

Porte Rouge premiered at Lincoln Center in New York at a gala benefiting the Youth America Grand Prix, a scholarship competition for young ballet students.

She wrote a novel

Hamrick wrote her first novel, First positionwhich was published in June 2023. According to Penguin Random House, the book is about “a dancer’s fall from grace” in the “seductive, bloodthirsty world of professional ballet.”

After her novel was published, Hamrick spoke with PEOPLE about what led her to write the book.

“Ballet is so romantic and sexy,” she said. “[Writing about it] it was actually therapeutic in a way. I retired about six months before I started writing and I was more into choreography as I was thinking, ‘What do I want to do after ballet?’ And then when the pandemic hit and all the theaters closed, choreography wasn’t really an option.”

Jagger gave her a promise ring

Despite rumors, the large diamond on Hamrick’s left ring finger is not an engagement ring.

“I mean, I have to laugh, because Mick gave me a ring? Yeah. Is it for that finger? Yeah,” she told PEOPLE. “In my opinion, it’s a promise ring. We’ll be immature and call it a promise ring.”

When asked if she and Jagger planned to get married, Hamrick said, “I don’t know. I’m a live-in-the-moment kind of person, so who knows.”
