Who Is Mookie Betts' Wife? All About Brianna Hammonds

The love story of MLB player Mookie Betts and wife Brianna Hammonds began when they were teenagers.

The Los Angeles Dodgers right fielder first met Hammonds in high school and they started dating shortly after. The two married in 2021 after welcoming their first child together, daughter Kynlee Ivory Betts, in 2018.

“Brianna has been there for me since we were teenagers,” Betts told PEOPLE shortly after their engagement. “We grew together mentally, physically and spiritually. She is my best friend.”

In April 2023, the couple had a son named Kaj Lynn Betts.

Betts found success early in his career after being drafted by the Boston Red Sox in 2011 and making his MLB debut in 2014.

Beginning on October 25, 2024, Betts is playing in his third World Series while Hammonds stays with him. He brought home a championship both times he played in the World Series before — the first with the Red Sox in 2018 and the second with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2020. His wins made him the first MLB player to win two World Series titles in a three-year span.

So who is Mookie Betts’ wife? Here’s everything there is to know about Brianna Hammonds and her relationship with the MLB player.

She and Betts met as teenagers

The couple met in high school when Hammonds was in seventh grade and Betts was in eighth grade.

“One of my best friends who passed away thought [Mookie] it was cute and I said, ‘Girl, go talk to him!’ ” Hammonds recalled Ebony.

She continued: “She was too scared to talk to him, so I told him: ‘My girlfriend likes you. Do you want to talk to her?’ …And he kept saying no.”

Betts said he thought Hammonds was cute, but that he was more interested in video games and sports.

A few months later, Betts plucked up the courage to ask Hammonds — who was a cheerleader at the time — out on a date.

“When I finally asked her out, she said she couldn’t hear me, but she did… So the next day I asked her out again,” he revealed.

“I’m thinking, You only have one chance. I only have so much courage, I walk around the room and think, I don’t ask anymore. I don’t know what [made] I’m asking again,” he explained. “She said my MySpace status had changed, too.”

She was proposed to with a complex surprise

Betts asked Hammonds the question in a special way.

“Dad was always asking me when we were getting married, and I was never the type of chick to pressure anyone,” Hammonds said Ebony. “I believe one should ask.”

In January 2021, Betts proposed to his longtime girlfriend with a seven-carat brilliant-cut diamond at a mock awards night he hosted with 40 close family and friends in Nashville.

Betts then told his bride-to-be that they were celebrating his recent LegaCCy Award from CC & Amber Sabathia’s PitCCh In Foundation. He held an awards dinner with the organization in attendance, and while accepting the award with his speech, he called his girlfriend on stage to thank her.

He read her a personal poem before getting down on one knee and asking her to marry him – and she said yes.

“Winning another World Series was great, but putting a ring on my MVP is a real blessing! I’m a blessed man,” the baseball star told PEOPLE after the engagement.

The couple hosted a pre-wedding rehearsal dinner at Dodger Stadium three days before the wedding, which took place on Dec. 1, 2021, according to Dodger Blue.

The wedding took place in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, at the Terranea Resort, a luxurious seaside resort. The oceanfront wedding was attended by 200 guests, including several Dodgers players and co-owners. Betts and Hammonds’ then-three-year-old Kynlee served as flower girl.

At the reception, rapper Nelly surprised the audience by performing Hammonds’ favorite song “Dilemma”. Lil Wayne also made a special appearance at the afterparty.

After an eventful day, the newlyweds honeymooned in Los Cabos, Mexico.

She shares two children with Betts

On November 6, 2018—just weeks after Betts won his first World Series—the Hammonds gave birth to their first child, a daughter named Kynlee Ivory Betts. The new parents shared photos of their newborn on Instagram.

“I never knew what unconditional love meant or what it felt like until I met this little princess,” Bett captioned the post. “6. November 2018 is a day I will never forget❤️.”

On December 8, 2022, the couple announced that they were expecting their second child.

“2nd round, final and final round #babybetts,” the MLB player and his wife wrote in their social media post.

A few months later, on April 18, 2023, Hammonds gave birth to the couple’s second child, a son named Kaj Lynn Betts. “18. April! GOD blessed us with our beautiful baby boy!” the couple captioned their joint Instagram post.

She realized that Betts was “the one” when she didn’t want to go a day without talking to him

After 15 years of dating, the couple can still remember the moment they knew they had found the one. As for Hammonds, she knew she wanted to be Betts’ wife when she realized she couldn’t go a day without talking to or seeing the MLB star.

“We’ve been together for a long time and we’ve gone through different chapters in our relationship as we’ve grown as individuals,” she told Ebony on the eve of their wedding. “Marriage is sacred, it is one shot and that’s it. I always knew that I loved and adored him, but I knew I wanted to be his wife when it was strange to go a day without seeing or talking to him.”

For Betts, it wasn’t until he saw his now-wife in a new light as a mother.

“I knew she was ‘The One’ when I watched her love our daughter Kynlee. She showed me that unconditional love is real,” said the six-time All-Star.

She and Betts co-founded the 5050 Foundation in 2023

The couple co-founded the 5050 Foundation, which raises money for children to meet their medical and financial needs.

In February 2023, they held the first annual Mookie Betts + Friends Bowling Tournament at Lucky Strike LA Live, with proceeds going to the nonprofit.

Why bowling? Betts, in addition to being a stellar baseball player, is also an excellent pitcher. He picked up his first bowling ball at age 3 and “never stopped,” according to him Los Angeles Times.

In 2019, he won the PBA tournament and has played at least five perfect games during his bowling career.

“It’s like his second home,” Hammonds told the paper, referring to Betts and the bowling alley. “You can find him there before you find him in the house.”

She is a proud baseball wife

Hammonds is her husband’s biggest cheerleader, and she can often be found in the stands cheering on Betts with her children. She had been attending his games since they were teenagers, who had gone from the minor leagues to the MLB.

She was by his side in 2018 when he won the World Series with the Boston Red Sox, celebrating at Fenway Park. During the 2020 MLB World Series at Global Life Field in Arlington, Texas, Hammonds brought his daughter onto the field for a postgame victory kiss.

In June 2021, Hammonds threw out the first pitch during her husband’s night out in Jersey.

“My queen and boss discovered ‘Pitching Ain’t Easy’ but she did an amazing job last night with First Pitch during my Jersey night!” Betts joked on his Instagram.

Hammonds also regularly updates his Instagram account with photos from the matches he attends.
