Blown Away returns for another season, this time with host Nick Uhasa. On July 22, 2022, Netflix launched the third season of the program. Nick Uhas also hosted the first two seasons of Blown Away, in which artists and contestants compete in the Hot Shop to create one-of-a-kind masterpieces using glassblowing methods.
Nick Uhas is a science influencer and content creator from Ohio. Over the years, he has appeared in several programs and has his own popular YouTube channel with 692,000 followers. He comes from a wide scientific and media circle. Uhas is a producer and on-camera performer at Nicholas New Media, a science and educational production company that develops content for several platforms and networks, and hosts Blown Away.

The 37-year-old YouTuber first appeared on television as a science contestant on America’s Got Talent and later as a contestant on the 15th season of Big Brother. Nick Uhas is an American YouTuber, science influencer, producer, skater, and TV personality who has appeared on America’s Got Talent Season 12, Big Brother Season 15, NBC’s TODAY, Fox n Friends, and Doctor Oz. He was born in March 1985.
Nick Uhas first debuted on reality television as a contestant in the 15th season of Big Brother, when he formed The Moving Company, an all-male alliance on the program. Although he was kicked out in the second week, his presence gave him the exposure he needed before launching his YouTube channel. The Blown Away host made it to the Judge’s Cut on America’s Got Talent Season 12 in 2017. During his audition, he gave the judges balloons filled with sulfur hexafluoride gas and asked them to inhale it, resulting in a lower voice.
He also had judges Howie Mandel and Mel B perform a science experiment on stage, which resulted in a huge cloud of smoke engulfing the stage. The Blown Away frontman has had an unusual rise to prominence, but one constant has been his desire to learn. As a freshman, Nick Uhas attended the University of Miami. He traveled to San Diego as a sophomore to pursue stunt skating professionally and was offered a spot on the U.S. roller skating team to represent the Midwest. After that, he went to Ohio State University as a pre-med student.
Uhas attended a summer economics program at Yale University during his senior year, where he majored in theater and economics. The Blown Away host credits his success to his education at Ohio State University. On the College of Arts and Sciences website, he said:
“I run this program because of my history at Ohio State and my YouTube channel, what I can do because of what I learned at Ohio State.”
After a brief stint on CBS Big Brother, he moved to Los Angeles and founded Nicholas New Media as the channel’s production company.
His material is mostly about science, and each video is like a mini-lesson that needs to be studied beforehand. Nicholas New Media, the Blown Away showrunner’s production company, has previously worked with Fox Networks, Johnson & Johnson, Vayner Media, Comcast NBC Universal and DreamWorks TV. The company creates pop-science video material and offers services such as pre-production, production and post-production.
Nick Uhas, student
When Nick Uhas was in sixth grade, his homeroom teacher was also his science teacher, which sparked his interest in science. While in college and unsure of his professional direction, he was drawn to biology and medicine. After his freshman year at the University of Miami, he headed to San Diego to pursue professional stunt skating and later represented the Midwest with Team Rollerblade USA.
He then attended Ohio State University, which his entire family had previously attended. Nick stated:
“I was born to be a Buckeye.”
However, he stopped skating when he realized how much time he needed to spend to become a doctor. The Blown Away host then began doing research under one of his professors and became a teaching assistant. As a senior, he began considering alternative career options, taking a course in video production and participating in a summer economics program at Yale University, along with minoring in theater and economics. One of Nick Uhas’ assistants at Yale was a YouTuber who invited him to work on a feature film, which led to him working as a production assistant in New York. He stated:
“By my second year there, I was doing all kinds of odd jobs to raise money while learning the ins and outs of the entertainment business, and I realized I was pretty good at management.” It just seemed easy to me, like skating – you just be yourself and the camera rolls.”
How did Nick Uhas come to work for Netflix?
In 2019, the Blown Away host was working as a full-time producer for the Weather Channel when a Netflix official approached him about Blown Away, saying they were looking for someone who was an expert on reality TV and understood science.

He stated:
“There’s a lot of science in glass, which we see a lot in the presentation as the glassmakers work.” Glass is as dynamic as metal, if not more so. Most of the time it’s clear, but it varies so much depending on the impurities and structure.”
The third season of Blown Away premiered on Netflix on July 22 and will follow the same pattern as the previous two seasons. Katherine Gray, glass artist and resident evaluator joins Nick Uhas on the program. Blown Away participants are looking to develop distinctive works of art and compete for a cash prize of $60,000 and a residency at the Corning Museum of Glass in New York.
