Peter Coyote’s real name is Robert Peter Cohon. He was born in New York, New York on October 10, 1941 to Morris Cohon and Ruth Cohon. His father was an investment banker who also owned a candy store.
Dwight Morrow High School is Coyote’s alma mater. He then attended Grinnell College, where he had the opportunity to visit Washington, DC. San Francisco State University also awarded Coyote with a master’s degree in creative writing.

Peter Coyote began his career as an intern at the Actor’s Workshop in San Francisco. He later joined the San Francisco pantomime troupe.
