Who Is Scottie Scheffler’s Wife? All About Meredith Scudder

Scottie Scheffler had an argument with his wife Meredith Scudder.

The pro golfer married his high school sweetheart in 2020 after winning a four-year long streak at their respective colleges. Scudder has been by Scheffler’s side since day one, even though the two started out as just friends.

“Coming into high school, I always thought he had a super humble vibe, that he was just a really down-to-earth guy who didn’t take himself too seriously,” Scudder said. Golf Digest her husband’s humble beginnings.

For almost three years, the duo gave up on raising their friendship to a higher level. And though she’s witnessed every step of Scheffler’s rise to fame, Scudder said even his “incredible accomplishments” aren’t “the most important thing about him.”

Fans have been slowly getting to know Scudder since her tournament performances leading up to Schefflera’s first Masters win in April 2022. At one point, she even worked for her husband on the weekend. Then Scheffler said Los Angeles Times that his relaxation routine included “sitting and having a little giggle and eating good food” with his wife.

Scudder continued to support Scheffler and was by his side when he won The Players Championship in March 2023.

She and Scheffler are high school sweethearts

Originally from Dallas, Scheffler and Scudder are childhood sweethearts. The duo first met as freshmen at Highland Park High School, but they didn’t start a romance until their senior year. “I had to court her for a few years,” he joked during a press conference for the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions.

Their new relationship was put to the test when they were admitted to rival colleges. Scudder went on to attend Texas A&M while her sweetheart went to the University of Texas. They dated long-distance for four years before getting engaged in 2020. Scheffler popped the big question while hiking in the Arbor Hills Nature Preserve in Texas.

She learned that Scheffler was a superstar golfer after seeing him in a commercial

A high school student, Scudder knew her boyfriend was pretty good at golf, but when she saw Scheffler in a commercial for a major golf tournament, she realized just how talented he was.

“I won the US Junior in 2013, and in 2014 I had the opportunity to play in the Byron Nelson as a high school kid,” Scheffler recalled to the media ahead of the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions. He continued, “I was at [Meredith’s] home one day, we were hanging out with her dad or something, and a commercial came on the TV. And somehow she looked around. She said, wait a minute, isn’t that next weekend? Aren’t you doing that?’ ”

After confirming he would play in the major leagues that weekend, Scheffler said Scudder was pretty impressed. “She says, ‘Wow, that’s great!’ ”

She and Scheffler had a winter wonderland themed wedding

Scheffler and Scudder were married in a church ceremony on December 4, 2020 in their hometown surrounded by friends and family. Afterwards, guests were invited to a winter wonderland-themed reception at Arlington Hall, according to John Cain Photography, who documented the event.

The ballroom was decorated with garlands, red bows and Christmas lights, while attendees were given red Santa hats and snow to throw as the couple exited the ballroom. The newlyweds drove off in a Golf decorated with the inscription “Just Married”.

In December 2023, Scheffler and Scudder celebrated three years of marriage. “Here’s to year 3 – happy anniversary Mera!” – wrote the golfer on Instagram with photos of the couple’s big day.

Faith plays a big role in their marriage

Scheffler will be the first to say that he is nothing without his faith. The professional golfer has spoken publicly many times about being a Christian and how he and Scudder lean on their faith during times of triumph and defeat.

“I cried like a baby this morning. I was so stressed,” Scheffler told Golf.com after winning the 2022 Masters. “[Meredith] he said to me: ‘Who are you to say that you are not ready? Who am I to say that I know what is best for my life? So what we talked about is that God is in control and the Lord is leading me; and if today is my time, then it is my time. And if I shot 82 today, you know, I’d somehow use it for His glory.”

During the performance at Sports Spectrum podcast in 2018, Scheffler explained how having the “God of the Universe” around “just makes things a lot easier to deal with.” In their daily lives, Scheffler said, they also look to “the principles of the Bible” as a form of revelation.

He likes to tease Scheffler about his “very special” Chipotle order

While Scheffler claims to have his Chipotle order down to a science, Scudder jokes that it’s just a “very special” way to get extras. In the video for Golf Digest, Scudder revealed that her husband likes to order the bowl with “an extra scoop of rice” and “a bit” of black beans. He asks for chicken for protein, and then just as they’re about to move his bowl to the next station, he asks for steak. “Because if you just say double meat, it’s not going to give you a full overview of both,” Scheffler explained. He skips the salsa and lettuce, but chooses the cheese on top.

However, her favorite part about her husband’s Chipotle order is how he eats the bowl. The professional athlete refuses to eat food with anything but a spoon. “You can’t use any other cutlery because otherwise it ‘doesn’t taste the same,'” Scudder said, mimicking Scheffler with air quotes.

“No, no, no, no, no — people always eat their Chipotle with a fork, but they use it as a spoon!” Scheffler said defensively. “Them with a spoon, but with a fork. That doesn’t make sense. Everyone else got it wrong. I got it right with a spoon.”

She is the director of curatorial opportunities for the nonprofit organization Behind Every Door

When she’s not cheering on her man on the golf course, Scudder helps out at Behind Every Door (BED). She is the director of curatorial opportunities at a non-profit organization that provides sports, educational and creative programs for youth in underserved neighborhoods in the Dallas area.

“I believe that everyone has unique gifts. I love being part of an organization that shows kids their gifts and gives them the opportunity to not only discover those gifts, but see who God made them,” Scudder told Veritex Community Bank for Basic golf.

Scheffler often volunteers for BED as well. The nonprofit’s mission, which is rooted in spirituality, is one of the things that first attracted the couple. “We like that it starts with listening. We’re not saying, ‘This is what you need, this is what we’re here to give you,’ but ‘We want to build a relationship with you and walk alongside you,'” explained Scheffler.

She added, “It was amazing to learn how BED empowers children and families to overcome poverty and build their communities. We love how relational it is and that the heart of everything they do is the gospel, which is important to Scottie and me, too.”

She knew nothing about golf before she dated Scheffler

Scheffler had to teach his wife a thing or two about his favorite sport. During a press conference for the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions, Scheffler admitted that Scudder didn’t understand much about golf in the early days of their relationship. Still, after finishing his career and spending most of 2022 on the road with him, Scheffler said she’s starting to get the hang of it.

“She was a quick learner,” he said, praising his wife. “She’s a student of the game. She came to learn it.” Her genuine interest and willingness to learn led to a great rapprochement with his parents, added Scheffler. “She spent a lot of time with my golf-loving parents. She’s learning.”

One of the ways she has immersed herself in the game is to bear her husband’s name. She carried Scheffler clubs in the 2022 Masters and then again during the Par 3 competition the following year. The golf pro posted photos of himself at the April 2023 tournament, including some shots of him and his wife walking together.
