On November 15, 1907, Hamed Abdel Fattah Gohar known as Hamed Gohar he was born in Cairo. He attended the Islamic Charity School for elementary education and the Royal High School for high school, where he obtained his matriculation diploma in 1925. He lived for the sea and was not married. Gohar first enrolled in the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Cairo, but after excellent success in the first year of his studies, he decided to transfer to the Faculty of Natural Sciences.
He submitted his first master’s thesis in 1931, two years after his graduation, with the topic “Microanatomy and histology of endocrine glands in rabbits”. In Egypt and the Arab world, Gohar began the first large-scale study project to study the oceans.
He began his study of Xenia, or soft corals of the Red Sea, in 1931 and completed it in 1939. Gohar earned a Ph.D. from Cambridge for a painstaking eight-year study of soft corals in Hurghada, considered the highest honor available to unsupervised research.
Career
Hamed Gohar began the first comprehensive study of maritime studies in Egypt and the Arab world more than sixty years ago. The management of the marine life station in Hurghada was handed over to Hamed Gohar. He founded a maritime museum with plants and animals from the Red Sea collections. In 1970, he worked as an adviser to the Arab League for Science and Technology.
International contribution
He was a member of the advisory board of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). In 1959, the International Atomic Energy Agency appointed him head of the Committee for Deep Sea Disposal of Nuclear Waste. He had a famous weekly television program called Sea World that aired on Fridays and ran for 18 years. . In it, he showed films about different sea creatures commenting on the picture and introducing the various factions, their habits and qualities.
