Whoopi Goldberg To Publish New Memoir in Spring 2024: ‘It’s Dedicated to Love’ (Exclusive)

In a new book, Whoopi Goldberg pays tribute to the people who shaped her. The EGOT winner, 68, announced the imminent publication of her new memoir, Pieces: My mother, my brother and me, exclusively with PEOPLE. The book, forthcoming this spring from Blackstone Publishing, will tell the story of Goldberg’s life, career and family in her own words. “This book is dedicated to my mother and my brother and our time together as a small, funny little unit. It’s dedicated to anyone who’s found themselves on a terrifying path that they didn’t choose or faced loss,” says Goldberg in an exclusive statement.

Scraps not Goldberg’s first book. The actress previously published several children’s books, including those from 1992 Alice and Sugar Plum ballet flats series, and her books for adults include If someone says ‘You complete me’…Run!.Goldberg’s memoir, however, switches gears and is “semi-autobiographical,” according to a press release obtained by PEOPLE. The book focuses on Goldberg’s life growing up in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York with her mother, Emma Harris, who died in 2010, and her older brother, Clyde K. Johnson, who died in 2015.

Goldberg will also touch on the incident when her mother came home from the hospital with no memory of her children — which was “the exact moment when the trajectory of Goldberg’s life changed.” The book will serve as a way for the author to preserve the memories of her loved ones on the page.
