Jeff Stelling attended Rift Home Primary School and West Hartlepool Grammar School after growing up in a council house in Hartlepool. He started his journalism career with the Hartlepool Mail before moving into television. Stelling’s radio career began in the late 1970s as a reporter for FC Middlesbrough on Radio Tees. He then worked as a sports broadcaster on LBC Radio’s Sportswatch before joining BBC Radio 2’s weekend sports programme.

Stelling’s previous work included coverage of the Los Angeles and Seoul Olympics. Before joining Sky in 1992, Stelling was a sports newsreader for TV-am, Channel 4, Eurosport and British Satellite Broadcasting.
