As a mother of five with two more little ones on the way, getting engaged isn’t necessarily Kailyn Lowry’s top priority.
But it’s something she’s been thinking about, especially since her relationship with boyfriend Elijah Scott is still going well.
“He pushed for it,” Lowry, 31, tells PEOPLE exclusively. “But I’ve already been married once in a way and I fucked it royally. So I’m a little hesitant.”
The Hardly known The podcast host notes that since the couple just “jumped into parenthood together,” she wants to enjoy the milestone first before taking the next step forward in her relationship.

“I’d like to have something to look forward to in the future instead of doing everything at once,” she explains. “I think we have time. If we’re meant to be together, then we don’t need to rush it tomorrow.”

Lowry and Scott quietly welcomed their first child together, son Rio, last year. Now, the two are currently expecting twins.
The Teenage mom alum — who shares sons Creed, 3, Lux, 6, Lincoln, 9, and Isaac, 13, with partners from previous relationships — enjoyed watching Scott dive headfirst into fatherhood, as well as putting in the effort to make their love work.
Regarding his parenting skills in particular, she notes that it was “second nature” to Scott.
“It was good. It was very different from my other partners and other fathers of my children,” she says of their relationship. “He pours concrete, falls and gets dirty on the job. But he’s also a real family man. He’s very, very connected to his own family, to our family, so he’s been a really good partner for me, and I feel like that’s a really good compound.”

In addition to balancing her relationship, her five children, and twins on the way, Lowry continues to build her podcast empire. However, due to his busy schedule, he doesn’t have time for himself at the moment.

“My time will come,” he said Convos with coffee podcaster says. “At some point I’ll have time for myself. But right now I really love being a mom and I love podcasting. And so, my time for me is getting ready to go to football games, basketball games and occasionally getting my nails done. And right now I’m good with that .”
