Why Millie Bobby Brown Has 'Real Fear' When Acting with Jamie Campbell Bower on Stranger Things

Millie Bobby Brown struggles to separate fact from fiction when it comes to Jamie Campbell Bower Stranger Things character, Vecna.

During the performance in Stranger Things At an Epic Con panel on Oct. 20 in Jackson, Georgia, the 20-year-old actress answered a fan’s question about her favorite scenes with Bower, joking, “None of them. It terrifies me when it’s Večerner. I’m terrified of his costume. That scares me.”

“I don’t like masks, which is crazy because I’m at Comic Con,” she added. “But I don’t like people who cover their faces. It’s definitely a phobia. I’ve had it since I was little.”

Brown recalled the first time he saw Bower dressed as his character on the set of the hit Netflix series.

“He comes to [the] set up and I’m like, ‘Who’s that?'” she shared. “And they’re like, ‘That’s Jamie,’ and I’m like, ‘That’s not Jamie. It’s a gremlin that lives in my closet waiting for me to fall asleep so you can kill me.'”

Crew members told Brown she needed to “calm down” and find something that reminded her of Bower.

“I’m like sobbing in my tent and like nothing reminds me of Jamie,” she recalled. “It was terrible, and then I close my eyes, and I smell cigarettes on his breath. I’m like it’s Jamie.”

“Every scene where I have to pretend I’m scared, he knows it’s real fear,” she added. “Yes, Jamie is the best. I like working with him – but not with another him.”

Back in July 2022, Bower revealed to PEOPLE his close relationship with Brown, whom he affectionately calls “Mills.”

“Mills and I became very close while working together,” he said at the time. “And I knew we were going to do it from the reading. I was sitting behind her… and when I started talking, doing Henry stuff, she turned and looked me in the eye and kind of smiled.”

He added: “And in that moment, when you connect with someone like that, there’s a kind of security that is brought into the space. It was an amazing, immediate atmosphere.”

Stranger Things seasons 1-4 are available to stream on Netflix. The premiere of the fifth and final season should be sometime in 2025.
