Every time Taylor Swift steps out on the red carpet, the internet rushes to decipher her look, from head to toe. That’s because the pop icon is known for her skillfully planted outfit Easter eggs. (Never forget her 2024 Grammys watch choker!). And her 2024 MTV VMAs moment was definitely a success on all fronts.
Swift seemingly went punk in her head-turning Dior look, featuring a check bustier top with attached skirt, paired with velvet hot pants and caged gloves, plus Stuart Weitzman thigh-high boots. Her entire look had Swifties buzzing about “Reputation Taylor’s Version” once again. The singer has yet to drop a re-recorded version of her 2017 chart-topping album, which many of her loyal historians believe will be the next reissue record.
But her glamor was what really felt Reputation-coded for us. It also felt like a 90s supermodel. Swift changed her signature classic, bright, crimson lip shade to an orange-red cinnabar shade. Her dark charcoal smoky eye and exaggerated winged liner rounded out the look Tail sense of appearance.
Her hair was also less polished, styled in a textured bombshell.

Swift’s 2017-2018 Reputation The period was characterized by sharp, whimsical color palettes, smoky makeup looks, vampy lips, snake symbolism, and plenty of over-the-knee boots seen during her tour and award show appearances at the time.

Taylor famously did his own glam for her Folklore album during the Covid 19 pandemic. Her look has become synonymous with sharp red lips and winged eyeliner.
At the 2022 VMAs, Swift chose beauty icon Pat McGrath for her makeup moment. McGrath then took to Instagram to call the singer his “angel” and shared a preview of the makeup she used.

Swift famously wore the same shade in her “Bejeweled” music video. The 2024 MTV VMAs air on September 11 at 8:00 PM ET/PT live from the UBS Arena in New York City.
