William arranged a meeting with the Villa regulars while he was in town to speak at a College of Nursing conference.

He bought a round of beer for eight Villa fans at the Wetherspoons pub at Birmingham New Street station after the official royal engagement.

William, who drank a pint of Bulmers cider, stayed for about half an hour before catching a train to London.

Steve Jones, 56, a Villa supporter for the past 35 years, said: “The club contacted us saying that Prince William wanted to meet a delegation of Villa supporters while in Birmingham as he wanted to be up to date with everything going on at Villa.

“He was fantastic. I was quite surprised at how engaged he was with the club he was interested in.

“He’s not a fan of fair weather. He really loves the club with a passion.”

Steve added that the two spoke at length about the club, including his Champions League trip to Monaco next week.

The Villa fan continued: “He asked a lot of questions and was very interested.

“It was 95 percent of the conversation about Villa because it’s not a shared interest, but a little bit about his family.

“Young George is a Villa fan but he didn’t want all three of them to be Villa fans.”

Steve said the prince was “very interested” in the team and was “a really genuine guy”.

The fan added that William expressed his hope that the team will beat Everton in their Premier League tonight.

This comes just a day after the Princess of Wales announced that her cancer is in remission.

She traveled on her own to the Royal Marsden Hospital where she thanked the staff there for the “exceptional” care.

‘FACILITATING’ KATE’S MISSION

Speaking yesterday, she said: “I wanted to take this opportunity to thank The Royal Marsden for looking after me so well over the past year.

“Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all those who have walked quietly by William and I’s side as we’ve been through it all. We couldn’t have asked for more.

“The care and advice we received throughout my time as a patient was exceptional.”

The mum-of-three has now finished chemotherapy and met with health professionals to “show her gratitude” in person.

Kate also asked patients about the details of their treatment, tests, well-being and asked about their families.

On hearing of one man’s diagnosis, the Princess of Wales said: “The body is amazing when it tells us ‘you have to take time’.”

Speaking about getting the diagnosis, she said: “It’s the uncertainty of that initial diagnosis. Such is the wealth of information.

“Understanding the diagnosis, that’s a huge amount of information to take in as a patient.

“It’s so important to have that continuity, in the clinical setting and outside of the home setting.”

Kate’s trip came almost exactly a year after she was taken to a London clinic for abdominal surgery and later found out she had cancer.
