Woman, 40, dies after two Rottweiler dogs savaged her arms and legs when she tried to pet them in Netherton

A 40-YEAR-OLD woman died after two Rottweiler dogs mauled her arms and legs when she tried to pet them.

Marie Stevens was mauled by dogs in Netherton, Merseyside, at around 5.45pm on August 18.

She was taken to hospital for treatment – and later discharged.

But shortly after 9.10am on Sunday officers were called to Marie’s home in Brighton-le-Sands after paramedics reported she had collapsed and died.

At the time of the attack, a 41-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of driving a dog that dangerously got out of control and injured them.

They were later released with conditions.

The Liverpool Echo reports that Marie was bitten multiple times on her arms and legs when she went to pet the dogs that were on a leash.

One devastated friend said: “I met her by picking her up at work in my taxi.

“Really sad news about a really lovely person who loved animals, thoughts to her husband and family RIP.”

Another said: “This is heartbreaking. Rest in perfect peace Marie – thinking of all your family at this sad time.”

A third said: “This is so sad, I worked with her – rest in peace.”

Merseyside Police said: “We can confirm that a woman who was injured in a dog attack in Netherton last month has sadly died.

“The autopsy determined that the primary cause of death was a pulmonary embolism.

“Her next of kin have been informed.”
