Wu Yibing was born on Thursday, October 14, 1999, in Hangzhou, China (age 23; as of 2022). His zodiac sign is Libra. He started playing tennis when he was four years old. At the age of 12, he went to Beijing to receive formal tennis training at the Porter Wheel International Tennis Academy. In 2017, he joined IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. 2022 US Open
In August 2022, he defeated No. 31 seed Nicholas Basilashvili in the first round of the US Open. This victory made him the first Chinese male player to win the US Open in the Open era, and the first Chinese male player to win a Grand Slam tournament in 63 years. Before him, Mei Fuchi had won in 1959. The same milestone was achieved at Wimbledon. In the same match, he defeated Nuno Borges in five sets and became the first Chinese male player to reach the third round of a Grand Slam event since Hsu Sinki achieved this feat at Wimbledon in 1946. He reached the third round in the tournament’s history since 1881. Since then, his career-high ranking reached world No. 131 on September 12, 2022. In the third round, he was defeated by world number one Daniel Medvedev.

2023 Dallas Open
At the 2023 Dallas Open, Wu defeated Michael Moher in the first round. In the second round, he defeated third seed Denis Shapovalov and reached his first ATP Tour-level quarterfinals, achieving one of the greatest victories of his career. In the next round, Wu Guanzhong defeated Adrian Mannarino and reached the ATP Tour level semi-finals, becoming the second Chinese player to achieve this milestone. In the semi-finals, he defeated world number eight Taylor Fritz, becoming the first Chinese male player in the Open era to defeat a top ten player and enter the ATP Tour level finals. John Woo defeated John Isner to win the ATP title, becoming the first Chinese to win the ATP title in the Open era. This also enabled him to achieve the highest ranking ever for a Chinese player, entering the top 60 of the ATP rankings on February 13, 2023, surpassing Zhang Zhizhen’s record.

In Geneva, Wu reached the quarterfinals on clay for the first time after defeating Marc-Andrea Husler and Marco Cecchinato. However, he had to withdraw after losing to Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals. At the French Open, John Woo lost to Roberto Bautista Agut in the first round and was eliminated.

- By the end of 2022, Wu’s ATP ranking reached 119th, an increase of 1,000 spots from his ranking at the end of the 2021 season.
- In 2017, he made his Davis Cup debut, representing the Chinese team in an undefeated victory over Jason Jung.
- He revealed in an interview that he had been obese since he was a child, so he started playing tennis to lose weight. He further added that initially he decided to play badminton but the net was too high for him so he opted for tennis instead.
- In his spare time, he likes to play video games.
- Wu has dealt with numerous injuries throughout his career, including elbow, back, shoulder and wrist issues. Due to these injuries, he was unable to participate in any games from March 2019 to December 2021. In 2020, he underwent surgery to address elbow issues.
- On July 31, 2023, at the Citi Open in Washington, John Woo collapsed on the court while leading Yosuke Watanuki 4-1. The player lost his balance while approaching the chair and fell during the ball change. As a result, he had to withdraw from the game. In an interview, he talked about it and said:
There was something wrong with what I ate last night, and I even felt like I was losing consciousness. I got better after the medical timeout, but it still affected my breathing. Considering my situation, I feel good to be able to play the way I used to. I’ll check further later. “
