Zac Efron Wears Sunglasses to Today Interview Due to Eye Infection: ‘I Feel Weird Being in Shades’

Zac Efron wore an unexpected accessory during his Today performance on Wednesday morning.

The actor (36) rocked sunglasses while talking to his friends Iron Claw actors and host Craig Melvin, who opened by saying, “Zac Efron is a legitimate Hollywood superstar, but that’s not why he’s in the shadows right now.”

The High school musical alum then apologized and explained his decision to wear shades – and it wasn’t for fashion.

“No, I’m sorry, man,” Efron told Melvin. “It feels strange to be in the shadows.”

“I just have a little eye infection,” he continued. “But I really wanted to be here. It’s such a good movie and I want to come see you and tell everyone about it.”

This is not the first time that Efron has had to explain the change in his appearance to a health problem.

Last year, there was rampant internet speculation that the star had plastic surgery on her jaw – which Men’s health called “jaw-gate”—prompted him to reveal something about his medical history.

While speaking with the publication, Efron admitted that his appearance has changed in recent years. He explained that it happened after he fell at his home and broke his jaw in November 2013, which forced his facial and jaw muscles to work extra hard.

The actor said he “went into a pretty severe depression, for a long time” while recovering from the rigorous training he underwent for the film.
