A sexual predator labeled a “danger to any woman” has been jailed for at least 38 years for murdering Zara Aleena as she walked home from a night out. Jordan McSweeney, 29, admitted murdering and sexually assaulting a 35-year-old law graduate in Ilford, east London, in a late-night attack in June. McSweeney fatally kicked and stamped on her, having followed several other women that night.

The judge said that his refusal to stand in the dock showed that “there is no backbone”.In a televised sentencing, Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb told the Old Bailey that McSweeney – who would not appear from the courtrooms – had carried out the attack with “ill deliberation”.

In sentencing him to a mandatory life sentence, the judge said she did not believe McSweeney’s actions on the night of the murder were a “pathological one”. She described him as a “disgusting and deeply violent man”.Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb said of the attack: “It was a sharp and sudden escalation of violence that had been simmering in his life for many years.”

McSweeney was also given a four-year sentence for sexual assault, to run concurrently. The defendant, a native of east London’s Dagenham, had only recently been let out of prison when he committed the assault.He has received 28 convictions for 69 offenses dating back to 2006, including racist offenses and everything from burglary to attacking police.

McSweeney was found guilty in 2010 for assaulting a young woman and leaving her with a swollen eye. He was only a teenager at the time. He became the target of a restraining order that prohibited him from speaking with another female victim eleven years later.

After the assault on June 26—which started at around 02:15 BST—Ms. Aleena was found by a couple on a driveway on Cranbrook Road, according to evidence presented at the Old Bailey. She was having trouble breathing because of the 46 different injuries she had received throughout the nine-minute beating.

Before being transferred to the Royal London Hospital, the 35-year-old got medical care for over an hour on the sidewalk. She passed away that morning later.
