Zayn Malik's 3 Sisters: All About Doniya, Waliyha and Safaa

Zayn Malik has the support of his family behind him, including his three sisters, Doniya, Waliyah and Safaa Malik.

Parents Trisha and Yaser Malik welcomed Doniya, the eldest of the Malik siblings, on April 19, 1991. She was soon followed by her younger brother Zayn — born Zain Javadd Malik, according to RCA Records — on January 12, 1993. Waliyha was born on 23 July 1998, and the youngest in the family, Safaa Malik, was born four years later, on September 13, 2002.

Zayn and his siblings grew up in a working-class town in West Yorkshire, England, where Trisha is from. The “Pillowtalk” singer said British Vogue in 2018 that processing the near-instant notoriety he experienced with One Direction required a lot of support from his family.

“It was just an experience that I didn’t understand, that, with time and when I could analyze it with my own brain and the people who surrounded me — father, mother, sisters… whoever it was — I got to the point where I could understand what that was cool about,” he said.

They grew up in a working-class town in England

Trisha and Yaser raised their four children in Bradford, a city in West Yorkshire, England, where Trisha also grew up. She worked as a halal cook at a local elementary school that served Muslim students.

When Zayn found success with the band, he bought his parents a new home and told his mom to quit her job.

Zayn said, ‘You don’t have to do it anymore,’ Trisha told the BBC. “Instead, he puts my paycheck in my bank.”

They don’t want to be musicians like Zayn

According to Malik’s matriarch, Doniya, Waliyah and Safaa have no interest in pursuing a career in the entertainment industry.

“None of the sisters are going to follow in Zayn’s footsteps into a music career,” Trisha told the BBC, adding that they were “shy”.

Although the family doesn’t spend as much time together as they did before One Direction, Trisha told the BBC that when they see each other, they act like any other family.

– They will tease their sisters, they will hug them and they could fight like brothers and sisters – she said. – He spoiled the younger one.

In a rare interview with the BBC in 2015, Doniya agreed that she and Zayn often argued and that being the only boy in the family made him quite spoiled. But she said that the singer still fell into the role of protector when it comes to his sisters, even the oldest.

“He orders me,” she said. “He acts like a big brother protector, which is very nice sometimes.”

In recent years, the brothers and sisters have managed to find space for more quality time. During the interview with NYLON for their May 2024 cover, Zayn talked about his current life out of the spotlight, explaining that he primarily lives on a quiet farm with “The evil dead vibrations” that terrify his sisters when they visit.

Doniya is a makeup artist

The eldest Malik is making her mark in the beauty industry as a makeup artist. According to her Instagram bio, Doniya runs Waliyha Beauty, a beauty salon specializing in bridal and party makeup.

Although it is not clear when she started her business, she has been posting makeup tutorials and photos of her work since 2017. Waliyha Beauty is said to be based in Bradford, where the family still lives.

Besides being the father of Khai – his daughter with ex-girlfriend Gigi Hadid – Zayn is also an uncle. Safaa has a daughter Zaneyah with her husband Martin Tiser. According to daily mail, the young couple got married in 2019, and welcomed their first child together in 2020.

Waliyah gave birth to son Ehsaan on January 3, 2023, according to her Instagram bio. Although she does not share photos of her child’s face on social media, she talks openly about motherhood and often shares clips from her new life.

“A son is a mother’s most precious treasure,” she captioned a December 2023 post with two selfies of her and Ehsaan, whose face is covered with a heart-shaped emoji. “I love you more than life itself [sic] my special little boy.”

Three sisters created a brand of false eyelashes

In 2021, Waliyha announced on Instagram that she and her two sisters were launching a line of false eyelashes called Slay That Sister. According to the company’s website, their shared passion for beauty inspired them to create three different luxurious 3D lash styles — each hand-picked to represent their unique flair and individual personalities.

“This is just the beginning for SLAY THAT SISTERS,” reads the company bio. “We anticipate much more to come from our brand as we share this experience with all our beautiful sisters around the world.”

They throw parties for each other

Marking family events is a skill the Malik sisters have perfected. For Doniya’s 30th birthday in 2021, Waliyha posted a collection of photos and videos on Instagram showing how they turned a simple backyard gathering into a lavish event, complete with grazing boards, multiple balloon installations, and an igloo.

In the same year, the three sisters also organized a surprise birthday party for their mother. Doniya took to Instagram to share a reel featuring a Chanel-themed cake, a flower wall and a waffle bar.

They stand up for each other

In 2021, Zayn was charged with four counts of harassment after an incident involving Gigi’s mom, Yolanda Hadid. According to court records, he allegedly “grabbed [Yolanda] and pushed her into a dresser, causing mental and physical pain.” The singer pleaded no contest and denied hitting his ex-girlfriend’s mother.

While the incident between Zayn and Gigi’s mom happened, Waliyha shared several Instagram stories in support of her brother. Along with a quote about family that read, “We may not have it all together, but together we have it all,” she tagged Zayn and wrote, “We all love you.”
