1000-Lb. Sisters’ Amy Slaton Learned She’s 'Got More Potential' After Divorce: 'Feeling Confident' (Exclusive)

Amy Slaton is finally seeing her own potential.

In an exclusive PEOPLE clip from Tuesday’s episode 1000 lbs. SistersThe 37-year-old is taking a cooking class with her sister Amanda and together they are learning how to grill a steak. They are both grilling their steaks at the same workstation when Amanda notices that her sister is not following the chef’s instructions.

“It looks great, it smells great, but smells and looks can be deceiving,” says Amanda with a laugh.

After she’s done, Amy tastes her steak and is pleased with her work. “Oh hell,” she says proudly before asking the chef to try it herself.

“The steak is a little spicy and a little salty, but I think it’s somewhat tasty,” says Ashley, the cooking instructor, in the confessional.

Amy boasts that her grandmother “would be proud of this meal.” Meanwhile, Amanda tells her that just for trying, their grandmother would be proud.

“After this cooking class, I feel more confident just showing the teacher that you don’t have to use normal s— to be delicious,” Amy says in the confessional.

“Since the divorce and everything, I’m trying to find who Amy is, but I’m actually kind of learning more,” she says, referring to her divorce from six-year marriage, Michael Halterman. now i have more potential. I didn’t think I could cook, you know, I didn’t think I could have that skill. But now it’s like, wait, I can do that.”

On a previous episode of the TLC reality show, Amy received backlash when she cooked shrimp Alfredo for her family because she added her “secret ingredient,” white chocolate chips, to the pasta along with a variety of unusual ingredients.

“I never follow a recipe. I can’t explain it. It’s like my grandma cooks through me and she just grabs things and just adds them,” she explained at the time, while her sister Tammy Slaton said, “Amy is known for making weird food concoctions…I’m really freaking scared.”
