13-Year-Old Makes History as First Person Ever to Beat Original Tetris: ‘I Can’t Feel My Hands’

A 13-year-old says he’s accomplished what no video game player has ever done before — he beat the original Tetris!

The user, who goes by the name Blue Scuti on social media, posted his historic game on YouTube on Tuesday. In the video, he reached the game’s “cancel screen”, something only an AI bot had previously achieved.

“Oh my God, oh my God,” the player can be heard saying around 39 minutes into his game – at a time when the tetrominos were falling at breakneck speed, and seconds after he almost misplaced a block and ruined his chance to win the game.

But after the kill screen froze, the bespectacled player covered his mouth and began breathing heavily as he captured the moment, which took place on the original Nintendo Entertainment System (NES).

Then he adjusted his glasses and added to no one in particular, “I can’t feel my hands. My hands are tingling, I can’t feel my hands.”

The Tetris prodigy is prone to using a relatively new technique called “rolling,” in which he holds the controller in such a way that he can press the D-pad up to 20 times per second, according to 404 Media. Previously, players favored the “hyper-tapping” method, the paper reported.

Blue Scuti was seemingly hoping to share his win, in which he achieved the highest score of 999,999, with someone else – but no one else seemed to be in the room when he made history. “My mom is at work,” he said.

His mom did end up sharing the moment she appeared on camera as he showed her what he had accomplished. “You see I crashed the screen,” he said before getting a high five from her.

The win was bittersweet for the teenager, who dedicated the game to his father, Adam Gibson, who passed away on December 14, 2023, according to 404 Media.
