28 days later he supposedly comes back from the dead—perhaps even three times.
Director Danny Boyle and screenwriter Alex Garland are teaming up again for another installment in the zombie apocalypse franchise that previously included the 2003 film starring Cillian Murphy 28 days later and its sequel from 2007 28 weeks lateraccording to The Hollywood Reporter.
Although the latter film was helmed by a different director (Juan Carlos Fresnadillo) and co-writers (Fresnadillo, 56, plus Rowan Joffé, Enrique López Lavigne and Jesus Olmo), Boyle and Garland are set to direct and write the sequel, titled 28 years later which will potentially start a trilogy, per THR.
The outlet also reports that Garland, 53, is set to write all three scripts, with Boyle, 67, attached to direct at least the first film.

28 days later follows Murphy’s character Jim as he wakes up in hospital and soon wanders the deserted streets of once-bustling London, shocked to find himself alone. He soon locates the other survivors, and they try to figure out how to survive in both the short and long term as the chimpanzee-derived “rage virus” continues to spread.
In addition to Murphy (47), the film starred Naomie Harris, Brendan Gleeson, Megan Burns, Christopher Eccleston, Noah Huntley and Stuart McQuarrie.
Independent sequel 28 days later, 28 weeks later followed another group of individuals set in the titular timeline, in which “the U.S. military helps secure a small area of London so the survivors can resettle and start over,” according to the IMDb synopsis.
The cast 28 days later they included Robert Carlyle, Rose Byrne, Jeremy Renner, Harold Perrineau, Catherine McCormack, Imogen Poots and Idris Elba.

Although it is not known if Murphy – who recently won a Golden Globe for his title role in Oppenheimer — will return to 28 days later franchise, the actor has since collaborated with Boyle and Garland, leading the cast of their 2007 sci-fi film. Sun.
From 28 days laterMurphy told NME for an interview published in November 2022 that the thriller “opened doors” for him in the industry.
“I was able to get meetings. I met [Oppenheimer director] Christopher Nolan through it, so that was massive for me,” added the Irish actor.
When asked if he would ever join another film in the 28 days later franchise, Murphy told NME with a laugh, “I think there’s a problem with that, because I’m 20 years older. But every time I bump into Danny or Alex, I always bring it up.”
“Because I showed it to my kids recently, for Halloween four or five years ago, and they loved it,” the father of two said. “It really holds up, which is amazing for a 20-year-old film. So yeah, I like the idea and it’s very appealing.”
