Thieves made off with £3,500 worth of high intensity discharge LEDs in Dusseldorf
The engine’s “High Intensity Discharge” lights give off more heat and require far less electricity than standard marijuana lights, reportedly making them prime targets for drug growers.
The robberies were first reported in Amsterdam, where cannabis is legal, a decade ago – with at least 30 high-end cars without lights to illuminate the road.
The thefts can last as little as 10 minutes, and are allegedly carried out in the middle of the night while the owner of the flashlight is asleep.
One Porsche driver online said they are being stolen for ganja farms because they use less energy.
They claimed that insurers “cited that as a factor” in not offering them a policy.
In 2012, hundreds of Porsche owners sued the German car brand in Florida, US, claiming that its headlights were too easy to steal.
The case was settled out of court.
