'80s Icon Tiffany Still Has All Her Famed Jackets: 'They're Part of My Son's Inheritance' (Exclusive)

Tiffany Darwish — better known simply as Tiffany — is making sure her iconic fashion sense remains a part of her family’s legacy. At the height of her fame in the ’80s, Tiffany, 52, was rarely seen without one of her iconic jackets — all of which she still has today. “They’re part of my son’s legacy,” she jokingly told PEOPLE, referring to her 31-year-old son, Elijah Garcia. “My sweaters, all my stuff, I still have it all. People would be shocked. Everything has been cataloged and put in storage, but they are well preserved.” She wore one of these jackets in her famous music video “I Think We’re Alone Now” in 1987. Ironically, Tiffany, then 14 years old, never wanted to record the nostalgic song that made her famous, believing that it didn’t showcase her vocal qualities enough. Plus, she had never heard the song, originally recorded by Tommy James and the Shondells in 1967. Tiffany wanted to record the more sentimental song “Could’ve Been,” which ended up being her second No. 1 single. “We really struggled. to sing that song, and it’s my favorite song I’ve ever recorded, to be honest with you,” she said. “The reason is that it just shows that I can sing.”

Beginning on September 25, Tiffany will once again showcase her vocal range when she joins Paula Abdul and Taylor Dayne for Straight Up! on a Canadian tour. “It’s kind of cool that it’s going to be such a great line-up of female artists and I’m going to be singing some vintage retro,” she says, citing ’80s hits “I Think We’re Alone Now,” “Could’ve Been” and “Feelings of Forever”. Tiffany will also perform her dance-centric song “I Like the Rain” from her 2022 album. Shadows.

Still, Tiffany knows the ’80s are her bread and butter and on tour she’ll be relying on her quintessential vintage look. “I’m wearing these designer jackets, I’m going back to the ’80s wardrobe and I’m wearing them all tailored,” she said. “I’m an LA girl, so the jackets have your leopard, your stitching, your appliqués, even the pins, a little bit of everything from the ’80s. I think it was really the ’80s. Everything went on the jacket, everything was going on a blazer. I was really blown away by the design of these blazers, and it really took me back to that 80’s vibe when you – at least I did – draw your jacket and what you’re going to set where and how you’re going to dazzle. “I’m really excited to present it in a new fashion way, bringing it into 2024,” she continued “But then again, there was something so magical about being old school and about the ’80s. It was a really fun, happy, unique time and I think you’ll see that from all the acts on this tour.”
