Historic Twenty-Twenty Spells
He entered the history books by playing the full four overs for the first time in Syed Mushtaq Ali’s match against Manipur on November 8, 2021. Vidarbha scored 222 runs with the help of Jitesh Sharma and Apoorv Wankhede. Manipur, on the other hand, was off track throughout the chase and managed to score 55 runs in 17 overs. Akshay was actually disqualified from bowling after bowling three consecutive overs. When he returned, he scored six runs and completed his four overs with two wickets to spare. This was the first time in men’s cricket that a bowler did not concede a run in a full T20 quota.
Later, in an interview with the media, he said
“It’s incredible. I didn’t lose a point the whole game, which is already an amazing thing. I feel really good.”
Former Vidarbha coach Sulakshan Kulkarni praised his efforts, saying:
“He is a player who has performed well. He showed his mettle with the bat in the second Ranji final in Vidarbha. Then, scored 100 runs in the Iran Cup and now has another outstanding performance.”
The next day, he scored a hat-trick against Sikkim with the last two balls of the eighth over and the first ball of the tenth over, and a new chapter in his record books awaited him. Vidarbha scored 205 runs on the board. Sikkim could score only 75 runs in 20 overs after losing eight wickets. Akshay completed his spell with five runs in four overs and took four wickets. Interestingly, two of them were caught by the bowlers and one was hit by the wicket. Ajit Kartik, captain Clancy Kumar, wicketkeepers Ashish Thapa and Nilesh Ramichani were among his victims.

Facts/Trivia
- In an interview with a local news channel, he recounted his ambidextrous bowling journey, saying:
“When I was 13, my coach Balu Navghare asked me if I could bat with my left arm. I have been using both my arms since then. My aim was always to pick up The wicket. I first look at the batsman’s performance and then decide if I have to really use my arms to take his wicket. Sometimes, I don’t.”
He also said,
“I usually bowl with no spin. My coach told me to bowl left-handed. Since there was a lack of left-arm spinners in the team, I bowled a lot and was successful. But now I can bowl with both hands. Not just that. , I can do a lot more with my hands.”
- Australia all-rounder Marcus Stoinis was impressed with his bowling in the warm-up match against Australia and he said:
“I actually didn’t know what the umpire was trying to tell me. He was trying to say ‘He’s going to throw the left arm to you’. So he was brilliant. I’d never seen that before.”
