Frances Bean Cobain became a mom!

She and Riley Hawk, son of skateboarding legend Tony Hawk, welcomed their first child, son Ronin Walker Cobain Hawk, in September 2024 — almost a year after the couple tied the knot in October 2023. Frances was previously married to guitarist Isaiah Silva.

The only daughter of the late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain and singer Courtney Love, Frances was born in Los Angeles on August 18, 1992. Although her father died by suicide less than two years after her birth, Frances carried on his legacy through her. own art and significant recognitions.

“I just want things to be good for her, but she’s a lot like me and her dad,” Love told PEOPLE in 2007 of raising her daughter in the public eye. “I think she brought out the best in both of us, so there’s that.” Although Love lost custody of Frances in 2009, the mother-daughter duo worked on their relationship for years.

Another trait Frances inherited from her famous parents? Her singing talent. The 30-year-old has continued her father’s creative legacy through art, but has also dabbled in music, releasing snippets of her songs, including one she wrote in honor of her father called “Angel.”

“I hope he’ll be proud of the human being that I am, even if he doesn’t like the art that I’m putting out,” Frances told E! News in 2018 “When it comes to music, I don’t want to fool myself and say that I’m a musician or a visual artist because I feel that it’s all-encompassing and I feel that every part of my art is connected to the other.”

She’s not a big fan of Nirvana

Despite her father’s role as lead singer for Nirvana, Frances is not a big fan of their music. “I don’t really like Nirvana that much,” she said Rolling Stone in 2015. However, Frances also told the publication that she respects her father’s work and ambition.

She also noted that she loves the song “Dumb” from Nirvana’s 1993 album In Uterosaying Rolling Stone to cry every time he hears it. “It’s a shortened version of Kurt’s perception of himself — himself on drugs, without drugs, feeling unfit to be called the voice of a generation,” she explained.

She had a near death experience

In 2017, Frances was on an Air France flight when one of the plane’s engines caught fire. After the terrifying incident, she took to social media and wrote: “I have entered a phase of my life where every moment is truly precious.”

When she celebrated her 30th birthday in August 2022, she looked back on that experience. “The plane event that brought me so close to death is ironically the event that catapulted me toward this lived experience with radical gratitude,” Frances wrote on Instagram.

She rebuilds her relationship with her mother

Frances and her mother are known to have had a rocky relationship, but they seem to be rebuilding their relationship in recent years. “When my mom is on the right and healthy path, she is one of the most fulfilled, beautiful, intelligent and kind people I have ever met,” she said in a 2019 appearance. In 2018, Frances announced on Instagram that she was celebrating two years of sobriety in an emotional post. “The fact that I’m sober is not really public knowledge, decidedly and intentionally,” she wrote about keeping her problems a secret. “But I think it’s more important to put aside my fear of being judged or misunderstood or typecast as one specific thing.”

In her 30th birthday post, she revisited the “destructive coping mechanisms” she used in her early 20s, highlighting how far she’s come on her journey to self-acceptance.

She feels “guilt” because she inherited her father’s wealth

During her appearance on RuPaul’s podcast, Frances opened up about her complicated relationship with money, explaining that she feels “guilt” about the wealth she inherited because she “didn’t earn it.”

“My relationship with money is different because I didn’t earn it. And so it’s almost like this big, giant loan that I’ll never get rid of,” she shared. “I have an almost alien relationship with it or I feel guilty because it feels like money from someone I’ve never met, let alone earned.”

Frances also said she used to struggle with money management, but getting sober has helped her learn balance.

“I would say that in the last two years I’ve taken real responsibility by looking at every detail and talking to the people who are in charge of my money,” she said. “And I also realized that you don’t have to live lavishly to live well. The only way I was shown how to live was to … live beyond your means and live in excess. It took me stepping away from that and sobering up to realize that no matter how much money you think you have, it’s not permanent.”

In January 2022, after a year off from Instagram, Frances took to the platform to reveal that she was dating Riley Hawk, the son of skateboarding legend Tony Hawk. In her post, she shared an adorable photo of Riley holding her dog for Christmas, along with a photo of the pair cuddling while on a boat with Riley’s parents.

Frances and Riley were married on October 7, 2023 in Los Angeles. According to a wedding certificate obtained by TMZ, Frances’ best man, REM frontman Michael Stipe, officiated the ceremony.

On the 30th anniversary of Kurt’s death, Frances wrote a beautiful post about grief and growth on Instagram.

“The biggest lesson I’ve learned through grieving for almost as long as I’ve been aware is that it serves a purpose. As it turns out, there’s no greater motivation for leaning into the awareness of love than knowing that everything comes to an end,” she wrote in April 2024. . . . “Loved I wish I could have met my dad. But there is also a deep wisdom in being on the fast track to understanding how precious life is. He gave me a lesson about death that can only be gained through the LIVED experience of losing someone.”

Frances continued, “Kurt wrote me a letter before I was born. The last line is, ‘wherever you go or wherever I go, I’ll always be with you.'” He kept this promise.

She and Riley Hawk have one child

Hawk and Frances’ first child, Ronin Walker Cobain Hawk, was born on September 17, 2024.

“Welcome to the world the most beautiful son. We love you more than anything,” the new mom wrote on Instagram.
